Thank you. The oil does need changing, can you believe the garage never did it with the head gasket even though I told them there was enough spare in a bottle in the boot!!
Cheers.

Can this cold cause mayo on the cap?
Hi,
Was just driving and a heard a weird 'thump' noise from the engine.
The head gasket, water pump etc. were changed a month ago so I checked the cap and there was mayo on it and also a bit visible under where the cap sits. Can this have been caused by the cold? The journey was 15 miles. Or has ...

surely someone can help
has anyone got any idea what could cause this apart from the head gasket?
a spoke to a guy at my local garage and he reckons it could only occur in the head gasket, but then again he could just be after my £350!
he said the oil pressure is higher than the water pressure so if it is a small crack ...

Oil in water but water not going down
Does a bit of oil in the water (not much over a couple of months) have to mean the head gasket has gone?
The gasket went about 20 months ago and the garage (I bought it from) said they skimmed it, changed the gasket, timing belt, water pump etc
I found the distributor was knackered and leaking oil ...

Brake disc and pad recommendations
Hi,
I need to change my front discs and pads and was wondering if someone could offer advice on the best make to get.
I have a 1.6 MkIV, '98.
I am not looking for any high performance top of the range parts, just standard, does the job well and will last parts.

Which temperature sensor for 1.6
Hi,
This may be a stupid question but I need to get a new temperature sensor for my R reg 1.6 (AEE if I remember correctly).
But eurocarparts has a few different choices with 2 or 4 pins. Which one should I need?
Thanks,
Julian.

loss of power on 1.6 while driving
hi,
a few weeks ago my 1.6 AEE suddenly, after a bit of driving so engine up to temp etc started stuttering and losing power, i was giving it plenty of gas but the revs just weren't coming up.
then seemed to clear itself and took it for a journey up the motorway, then it happened again the next ...

You are an absolute star mate. Thanks so much. Luckily GSF is fairly close to where I work so I trekked round there after work yesterday and picked up the part. Will probably wait until Saturday to fit it so I have plenty of time and will be taking some pictures and writing a little guide to doing ...

I cannot get the thermostat housing back on! Just can't do it, is there a way of getting it on easily? is there a picture guide?
Also the thread in the bottom screw hole came out :? this poses a bit of a problem as well but i was hoping the seal of the o-ring would hold it together ...

water in coolant system evaporates??
this might be a stupid question but need to rule it out.
if i had mainly/only water in my coolant system would that maybe be a cause of it losing water?
does proper coolant raise the temperature that it will evaporate at? sometimes when i had stoped i could hear what seemed like vapour escaping ...
