I know for a fact this is similar with the wheel bearing housings on the 6r / 9n3 GTI and PD130 Polo/ Fabia...

The 6r is well built. In my opinion build quality went down when they introduced the 9n. The 6n2 was much better built. Glad to see they've got their act together. Having said that, had a front end to front end collision with a '00 Astra in a 9n - the 9n got a scratched bumper and cracked slam panel...
