It's called a terminal tool / terminal remover / terminal block tool. You can find them on eBay etcetera.

Ciclo, I know this was one of your very early mods, but I want to also do the illuminated glove box to the wife's car. I've looked at your instructions and parts required, and from the parts point of view all seems OK, but I just can't get my head around the two dimensions you listed for the cardboard template, and where I would need to cut to mount the light.

If you get the time, any chance of a little more explanation please (of course it could just be me being thick) ?

You can buy here:

It is good quality, I use it very often.

But if you prefer, you have this ***EXCELLENT*** guide to make it yourself.

I made measurements with plastic tools, so precision is not perfect. Therefore you must overlay the lamp and check its operation before cutting.
Always the cut less than the dimension obtained to correct as necessary.

Previously, to reach these measures, I made several mathematical calculations with the lateral dimensions of the glovebox (many dimensions) to get the most beautiful situation of the lamp that was possible. Thanks to the phi number.

Maybe these calculations it's an overzealous Image, but I remember this beautiful work every time I open the glove box.

Thanks for the reply on the Glovebox light installation Ciclo, think I understand it better now.

Just a couple more questions if I may before I proceed. Firstly the dimensions you gave in the build thread (43.5mm x 24.5mm), do I assume that that is the overall dimensions of the hole that needs to be cut for the lights ?

Lastly, the repair wires (000 979 021), how many do you need to reach to the fuse box (how long are they each) please ?

Thanks.

You only need 2 wires to connect it to the light (+ and -). Then you can use another wire to extend it to GND and fuse box. In the fuse box, you'll need a standard power timer or a repair wire 000 979 135.
It's better not to use a lot of repair wires to reach the fuse box, since they are quite expensive and every link decreases strength and flexibility. Better to solder a normal wire inbetween.

something like:

+12V light <---- 000 979 021 ---||--- normal wire ---||--- 000 979 135 --> fuse box
GND light <--- 000 979 021 ---||--- normal wire ---> GND

Norbreck21a,

With respect to the hole: For your safety you should measure the dimensions of the lamp between the grip tabs. It is very easy because the end result is a rectangle. Cut half a millimeter less (two measures) and then you must go correcting as necessary.
Take it easy and do it skillfully because no turning back.

Regarding the wires: I use HQ automotive wires from coils 100m, and after running the wires (from point to point), I do the crimping of terminals, so I can not say exactly the length of the wires. I'm sorry.

An image of the material I use:
