Soon to be part of the GTi club!

Post by PhilGTi »

Hey, i just sold my polo 1.4mpi and am looking for a GTi, any tips etc? I just went to see a black one, 34k, climate, cd changer, full VW history.

Any things to look out for?

I hope you kept hold of your RS4 alloys

There are plenty of posts about what to look out for - in a nutshell, check for crash damage, corroded alloys, service recall work, make sure the electronics and A/C work (all of them inc. extras like heated seats) and just check the car over to make sure it's all ship shape!

Good luck with your search :D

Any chance you could send me some pics of yours, including the inside. Just so i can have something to look at when deciding...

Amazingly the alloys on the one i went to see were not corroded at all :D. How much is it safe to lower the GTi without rubbing, i was thinking of getting a 45/45mm sportline Eibach kit!?

Na i sold the RS4 wheels with the car, I got £5,000 for it so im not complaining  .

Lowering? Dubpolo is running at about -70mm with no troubles whatsoever and some say you can go up to -110mm  but trust me, -70mm looks the business 8) so Eibach sportline springs will be a good start - will be fine with the standard shocks AFAIK...

If you PM me your e-mail address, and let me know of any particular requests (Engine bay? Dashboard? Spare wheel well?) for the photos, I'll take some snaps tomorrow :)

You can find loads of info on the pedal box recall in the topic stickied at the top of the forum.

As fo 18"s? Never seen it done on a Polo to be honest but I imagine it would be a lot of work unless you want the ride height of a 4x4 :?

Hmmm I'll have to have a word with These guys Online shop here

They managed to do this (19's with standard arches), only thing is it affecting the turning circle etc if not I'll have to make do with 17's, I've decided they're going to have to be RS4 Replicas

And thanks for the topic on the Pedal Box, I'll have to have a read through that, I just have to crack on with the saving so I can get one now.

lol, i dunno when ill be getting one because im very picky with cars! Ive went to see one so far but its had 3 owners! Ive got the cash for mine now tho so its just a matter of time. I might be able to pursuade my dad into lending me the cash to get a newer one with leather.

The guy came to pick my car uptoday, never seen so many fifty's!

i believe this one has MAJOR arch modifications, cus i know some1 with a blue saxo VTS, with those exact wheels, he had to get the fuel filler pipe re-routed etc. 17s rub on a standard saxo....

18s will fit on a mk5 (GTI) but ull need to stick with 7.5" width. KarlM had 18s i believe but were rubbing, even with arch modifications.... so unless you plan to spend lots of money and do lots of work, and put up with the rubbing, dont go for 18s. 17s look the biz on the mk5s as it suits the car size. 8)

Might just go with 17's then, PoloSilver, the one you have in your Sig looks well nice with those wheels on it.

Thanks, just sold it today! I loved it but was too slow with the 17's on being only a 1.4 8V, need some decent power! Ive made an offer on a Black GTi, its got 34k on the clock and comes with FVWSH. She's speaking to her dad tomorrow morning and then phoning me back! So fingers crossed and i might have a GTi tomorrow night. Got £500 to spend on it too hehe!

If i get it for what i offered ill be lowering it 50mm on Eibach, full Combo disc's and darkest legal Tints all round! The i might debadge it.

Sounds good, I've just got to carry on saving, then I can start looking for a 3 Door Silver one with Leather if I can find one.

Hope all goes well with your offer mate, keep us posted.
