... the upgrade to version 5 has just been launched.
You will need the product code from your original CDs, but otherwise €70 (incl. postage) seems like a really good deal for the new software and new maps.
Will let you know how it compares to the old one when it turns up.
Deek.

I'm not sure how you'd get round the mandatory registration codes with a torrent.
But, anyway, the package arrived and - boy is it worth the upgrade.
It's now the same software as the Go units and you should see the speed at which it redraws the map. On my HP2210 it's gone from around 1 frame a second to 10 to 15.
Other pros:
- you can now have the display in landscape, so it will fit nicely into the cubby hole infront of the ciggie tray in my 9n.
- and this is the biggie - it comes with full european maps
- with the current exchange rates it worked out for me to only £46 - well worth it.
- postcodes
Cons:
- the menu navigation seems more complicated to me
- for example, you now have to go through a couple of menu options to get the browsing the maps - you can't just siwtch bakc and forth btwn navigation and maps as you could on version 3
- the registration process is a bit over the top (three codes in total, one generated by a website from the other two)
- checkpoint doesn't work, but it is supposed to have its own wanring systems for poi's (i.e. cameras) - have yet to test this.
- there doesn't seem to be a logging option for the GPS - which is a shame as I really enjoyed that aspect.
Overall - worth buying.

Well, I'm beginning to have second thoughts about version five. I really miss the gps logging that the last version offered. Plus, the reported position seems to lag behind your actual position by about four or five seocnds. This makes it impossible to navigate by listening to the voice prompts alone - because if you do, you'll miss your turning.
This also affects the speed warning - I have mine set up to change to to the simplified display at 77mph for motorway stuff. The old version would revert back immediately after you dropped back below the threshold. With the lag on this one, you could have fallen back to 70ish for a good few seconds before it acknowledges the fact.

, I lost all the information on it. I'm currently sitting here wondering whether to put version 3 or 5 back on, and am more minded to revert back to version 3 (even with its older maps). I'm holding off for as long as I can to see if any updates for version 5 come out, but I will be needing something for finding my way around when I finally relocate in a couple of weeks!
