8v Golf GTI airflow meter on a GT

8v Golf GTI airflow meter on a GT
What is the advantage to this mod? I have a spare AFM from my golf sat in my garage with a K&N 57i stuck on the end of it..
Will it fit on my rubber intake pipe or does it need adapting? What will it do the drive/performance of my little GT?? Does it just plug straight in?
The only benifit I can see to this mod at the mo is that there are the two bolt holes on the side that a supporting braket will fit to, and on my GT there aint any..

Yeah, Krupa on here has done this.
I think he suspected his AFM was knackered when he had running problems, so he fitted a Golf Digifant AFM. I'm not sure how it will affect performance or driveability, best ask him.
I think they plug straight in but are bigger bore, so the induction pipe might need to be bigger. You would have to make up some sort of bracket to hold it in place.
But beware, GT's can be very tempremental. They dont always like being messed with, and the Golf may send different readings to the ecu.

That's what I was thinking.. or maybe not have to replace injectors (I didnt on my GTI when I went from 1.8l to 2.0l with a stage 2 head) but maybe get a chip (a superchip went in my Golf)
This is why I asked as I have a spare AFM with a 57i on it sat in my garage...
What do people do? Injectors, chip, or leave everything as it is cos it's fine to do so??

Making a bracket would be easy. The Golf AFM has 2 blts in the side of it that a bracket can be bolted to.. infact K&N suppliy a bracket that bolts to said holes with their 57i! Unfortunatly the Polo AFM doesn't, hence why my one is currently cable tied to my strut top.....

I've not been on here in ages, hence missing this thread.
I've done this conversion on mine, as Dan (hardhitter) said. I can vouch for it being worthwhile. It pulls harder, and for longer through the revs than it did before. It's a straight swap too, with no compatibility problems.
There is quite a difference in terms of size...


The rubber pipe that joins the top of the TB with the AFM can be stretched (gently) over the end of the Golf AFM. You will need to use some sand paper to give the end of the Golf AFM a rough surface onto which the pipe can grip, you will also need a new jubilee clip. I've had mine 18 months though, and it's never come off the pipe. You might want to heat the rubber up a bit though, just to make it a bit more elastic.
I'd take some pics of my bracket, but my car's in the garage due to the head gasket dying last weekend so I can't at the mo. But the proof that it all fits is here...
