but my mk6 has a heater switch for the mirrors.....(at the mirror joystick)

Yeah, I thought it was a heated rear screen come to think of it...think this calls for a referral to the manual...

On further investigation, yes, the wing mirrors are heated when the rear window heating is switched on... page 43...

Definitely got my wires crossed somewhere then!
