You might just about get away with the charger not being serviced at all as it's not got huge miles on the clock but that's something worth addressing ASAP, and it's worth driving it home carefully just in case.

Sounds like it's been reasonably well looked after, but you never know. Woman owner doesn't always mean careful owner, jeez, I've known some girl racers who thrash ten shades of sh*t out of their cars.

It's a nice colour, mileage is reasonably low. If the shell's solid and straight and there's no oil blasting out of the dipstick or funny noises under the bonnet I'd have said it's worth a go.

Like I say though, for the sake of being careful drive it home carefully (if you can resist flooring it!) and get the charger serviced straight away. If poss get it to a specialist for a once over too, just to make sure.

Hope this helps, I don't have a huge knowledge of G40s but I'm learning!

Post by ck6uk »

ok wel i spoke to the guy whos selling it and he said he got it looked at and mechanically its fine but recommends a charger rebuild at 100k miles also it has a dent in the drivers side door which aint that bad at all, comes with original spare wheel in a totally unmodded car
he wants 1900 for it

thank you very much for ur help guys!

is there any car that the g40 is the same as, i mean in power weight ratio, i think the g40 is 150 bhp to the ton standard

i can feel a g40 VS pug 205 gti war coming on lol

Audi TT (180bhp) is 150bhp/tonne

Recommended charger service interval is 35k miles, trust me, it's worth getting it checked out. Part of my charger had broken up and was crumbling away, I dread to think what would have happened if I'd used it before getting it serviced!

A rebuild is always worth it, you'll get better power and the piece of mind of knowing it's ok too.

is it worth it in the end?

Post by ck6uk »

so lets say every 30k miles it should be done, the car aint had it done for over 70k miles so its scrap metal? lol

also i duno about u guys but im miles n miles away from pit stop dev n sending it would mean no car for a while. is this the same principal as turbo chargers? do they need the same care

would u trust a standard car garage with ur G ?

A normal garage should be able to look over a G40 fine, but in terms of charger servicing based on horror stories about other places Pitstop is the only place I'd want to send mine.

The charger should (in theory) be fine, and just need a standard rebuild, in which case it's going to be safe to run it as it is, but for the sake of being safe it's best to get the charger done as I've said. My charger was taken from a car that had been used on a daily basis, but it was in need of a lot of work. The scroll (the part in the centre of the charger which rotates) had been exposed to water and had corroded hence was breaking away. Didn't stop the charger being usable, but that's a ticking time bomb.

Plus a charger in need of a rebuild won't produce as much boost as it should do.

So never a bad idea getting it done!

Costs about £20 postage to get the charger to Pitstop, and they'll do the work and send it back to you. You don't need to take the car down there. In the meantime just take it carefully in case it's unwell.

Once the charger's back, there's no reason any garage couldn't check it over really.

Hope this helps!
