Lots of warranty work done to my car but...

Last week I left my car at VW Carbel for the day. Major complaints were the dash rattles that won't go away (I'll start leaving food for the gremlins!) and the RHS headlamp lens that looked 'dirty', but inside.

I also asked them to fit the 'windows-up' module, so that my windows would go up when I remotely locked the car. Cost R$120.00 parts and labour included (Â£26.60) and kinda compensated for the loss of the 'Comfort' feature in the door lock (that wound the windows up and down using the key).

Anyways, they changed the headlamp, the heating/AC fan assembly (I don't know why but anyways), some dashboard trim and still... the dash rattles!

Plus now the driver's side door panel rattles too (apparently they had to remove that for the window service).

The car's due back in tomorrow - with an ultimatum this time. THey're probably getting tired of me but this car needs to be sorted once and for all... Or I'll start dissassembling the dash and fixing things myself!!! (will probably need your help...)

Who had his dash disassembled again? Deek? Dsg? Neil? Can't remember. Anyway. What's with these 9n's that they rattle straight out of the plant?

Mine has rattles and squeeks ohne ende but it's six years old and two generations older. This shouldn't be the case with brand new cars, or am I wrong?

Mines been ok for rattles, The only one I have is from the Passenger seatbelt, but I had that on my Mk V. It does sound like they do have a lot of rattles, but then if you look on the Golf/Bora forum they appear to have just as many...

I couldn't find time to take my car (again) to the dealers.

However I managed to get rid of the latest rattle(and most irritating yet): one from the seatbelt height adjuster, right by my left ear! Well I had to take the light grey plastic trim off (a bit difficult when you don't know exactly what you're doing). When I put it back it, it wasn't as 'flush' with the headlining as before, but the rattles is gone (something had gone loose or was never fitted properly, I think).

My 9N started rattling like crazy after approximately a week from delivery. It's quieter now but not 100%...

It was me who had his dash pulled out by the dealer.

Who remembers this?

Anyway, it's in for its first (i.e. one year old) service next week and guess what's on the (rather long) list of warranty work - yup - dash rattles - they're pretty much all back.

I definately won;t be keeping it for the 5 or 6 years I'd planned. I'll have to get shot before the warranty runs out.

One question I'll have for the service manager is what's the difference btwn the 2nd and 3rd years of the warranty? Years 1 and 2 are "manufacturer's" warranty, while year 3 is "franchise's" warranty -- I need to find out how that will influcne their willingness to fix things (i.e. can they still charge the work back to VW? This will influence my decision to seel the car this time next year, or this time in two years time.

Anyway, no matter - as the GTI will be out this time next year!
(And yes, I would consider another Polo - but that's mainly down the incredably good service I've had from my dealer, rather than the car itself).

Also, the amount of silicone grease/oil/sealant/whatever that my dealer had sprayed into the dash during reassembly was phenominal!! The stuff was seeping out from every gap for a good couple of months after I'd got the car back. I mean, look at this (this was just a couple of weeks ago):

The felt was also added by the dealer. Had to remove this to fit the cubby box, and now it rattles again - bummer.

Yep I can see the same felt pretty much wherever two different plastic parts meet. They even put some on the glovebox latch.

I'm planning on keeping this car for the next 5 years and in Brazil warranty's just 1 year, so I've got to get the car sorted before the warranty expires!

Edit: took away the rant. Sorry, I've had a rough day...

I'd fit the airbags though. Not much padding left there in case something goes wrong!
