gearbox?

Post by parish007 »

Hi chaps, wondered if you could help out with a major headache ofmine?
About 1 month ago my 1.9cl diesel started rumbling on start up, which would make a horrific noise. Very embarrassing as everyone in the vicinity would turn round and look! I am not kidding it made a huge vibration in the engine block but once the engine started to tick over my polo would drive like a dream. This rumbling did not happen if the engine was warm.

Last week after leaving the car in a car park a further problem developed, not sure if its related to the last. The car started but i could not put it into any forward gear. On trying to put it into reverse the car wouls stall, all very strange. However it would go into gear when the engine was turned off. In the end it got stuck in gear and i had to call the aa out, who towed it to the garage.

Took it back to the Skoda Garage and they said it was a gear linkage problem and they had releasedit out of gear, cost £25.
I wasnt convinced but took their word. I find today the same problem does not go into gear.

Can anybody shed any light, i would be truly greatful.

sounds more like a f*ckered clutch to me mate

what with the stalling out when jamming it in reverse (the only non synchromesh gear & so possible to "crash" with enough force) & all

the vibration on start up may be related (juddering at a certain idle speed) but then maybe the mounts, misfuelling/mistiming (temp/hall sensor gone), or just the fact that it is, after all, a diesel, and maybe getting a bit old.

PS yours is more likely a mk4 as i've yet to see a diesel mk3 in the flesh, let alone one bigger than 1400cc ;)
