Anyone done a 1.4,16v In to a MK1 ??

Post by VF_Marshall »

Hi,

Anyone out there tried "dropping" a 1.4 16v in to either a MK1/MK2 shell? Reason for asking, i've almost finished restoring my Derby GLS engine bay, and i need something to fill it! The HH engine that came with the car is totally worn out and i need a bit more power....

Suppose electrics are the biggest problem with the 1.4, as it's got an ecu...

Cheers

As with most engine swaps (late engine into old car) the wiring is by far the hardest bit.

Don't early Polo's have Mk2 Golf-type engine mounts? Perhaps looking into next of kin cars will make things easier. What I mean is, my Mk4 has its big brother (the Mk3 Golf) and some parts are identical.

Unfortunately, the engine mounts are different in my case. But it's a thought!

Happy New Year,

we put the 1,4 L 16V into a Polo MK 1 without probs.

My new engine is the polo 16V head on the lower part of the Polo 6N AEA 1,6 L ( normally 75 PS.)
It is a very fast running engine. A good friend has the engine inside with 179 PS with maximum motortuning done by our tuner.

Will help u if you need some special infos.

Mike

Square Headlamp models look better with the G40 mod, more space to hide the charger behind the grille/bumper. It seems a shame to hack the grille and chrome strips on a round lamp model to me.
