De-cat downpipes coming soon!

Post by hardhitter »

If anyone is looking into removing the cat from their Mk 3, I will hopefully be able to supply de-cat downpipes soon.
They are made using part of the original downpipe and stainless steel, so they will last. The quality and finish is very good and I have one on my GT. It's a lot less restrictive with one and top end power is better, and a good way of gaining a few bhp.

Depending on sources, the standard GT (with cat) gives 75bhp and the stadard (non-cat) GT gives 83bhp. Those are flywheel figures

At a rolling road day my GT got 74 bhp at the wheels. Thats just with induction kit, de-cat and exhaust system. Considering the loss you get through the drivetrain, I think thats pretty respectable.

So were looking at between 95bhp and 100bhp at the flywheel then, very impressive - be sure to post a price when you've got one.

ps will this fit other 1.3 engines (like my cl)?

As yours is a Mk 4 Karl, I'm afraid they they are very different. I'm not sure what the Mk 4 cats are like.

At the moment I dont have an exact price. But I expect them to be around £30 in exchange for the old downpipe.

I have just had some made up this week. I will try and get some pics as soon as can get the camera. They are £30 each in exchange for the old downpipe.
Very impressed with the bloke who made them for me.

Any luck with a pic yet?

Do they affect the noise of the exhaust?

Has anyone who has carried out a Decat had any effect on their insurance?

I might get it done, but my aim is to keep mine as straight as possible :?

well if you dont and the assesor see it after an accident then youll be going
oh got for a gain in power i paind 30 quid plus the price what ever repairs are done because they cancelled my insurance and if they wanted they now have grounds for filing an insurance fraud law suit if they want !

so id say that since it prolly wont add any more than 50 quid per yeah id declare it :)

Sorry for the delay, been busy lately.

Here we go

I have already sold one to a lad, and he was very impressed with it.

They dont affect the sound of the exhaust too much. They dont really make it louder, you can hear the exhaust a little more.
