ok!
i have had some really bad experiences with cars, mainly just down to bad luck ...
my first car, a mk 4 polo 1.4 16v got written off after having it for two weeks ( it was parked and two ladies were playing a game of chicken pretty much) end of.
then i had a courtesey car for like a month!
That didnt have an oil cap on the engine and nearly set itself alight ... then i was adjusting the rear view mirror and the windscreen just cracked?
any way ... so insurance money comes through and i spend some on a nice little mini cooper! (classic shape) was bout 10 years old and was the biggest mistake of my life!
... turns out it was a s**t heap not worth a penny really ...
so im stuck with the mini that i cant really sell etc so i manage to save up some money and sell some old gear on ebay and i muster up 4500 to get my new car, a vw polo gti!
ive always wanted one especially since my 1.4 16 goit written off ..
now dont get me wrong! theres nothing really wrong with my new car! i love it! yeah its had the pedal box replaced and the tensioners were done at 30k (its 47k now) etc etc but from reading bout everyones clutch, gearbox, cambelt tensioner etc etc probs ...
im constantly listening out for little squeaks rattels grinding etc! its doing my head in ... im going on a road trip down to cornwall in mid august and my service is due end of oct. the car has done 47k but should i get the belt done before or after my roadtrip? even though its not sposed to be replcaced untill 60k
sorry ... im just paranoid! i needed to get this off my chest! i feel better now hehe!
p.s
- the clutch feels heavy
- i started it up this morning and it run for bout 2 secs then cut out, then when it did fire up again it felt really crap driving down my road (no power - engine couldent make up its mind what it was doing) *it did rain last night
brakes arent all tht even with new pads worn in (greenstuff)
ok .. im done
cheers for any input

Greenstuff pads aint all thier made out to be, could be sticky caliper, doubt it on newish car though
My 1.4 16v used to cut out in the morning then start again, but after second start always had the power, never a loss of power so i never worried, could be engine timing or something like that in the ecu, dunno though

When the tensioners were done I'd have thought it would have been silly not to replace the cam belts too?!!theclient wrote:now dont get me wrong! theres nothing really wrong with my new car! i love it! yeah its had the pedal box replaced and the tensioners were done at 30k (its 47k now) etc etc but from reading bout everyones clutch, gearbox, cambelt tensioner etc etc probs ...

Since I had my gearbox trouble I'm always listening for noises, best to just turn the radio back up...
One morning last year I had a problem with my car where after about a mile of driving, the power would keep cutting when I pressed the accelerator. it made it almost impossible to pull away without stalling. or keep up speed! I really had to give it some stick! Then after 6 miles of this it cleared up completely and i've not had trouble since (touch wood)... unfortunately I have no idea what the problem was, so thats no help to you but at least the problem might just go away! Could have been damp, or maybe your car was just running on 3 cylinders for some odd reason?theclient wrote: - i started it up this morning and it run for bout 2 secs then cut out, then when it did fire up again it felt really crap driving down my road (no power - engine couldent make up its mind what it was doing) *it did rain last night
