How many genuine G40's still alive?? (not converted 2 g40)

i have just bought a g40 and was wondering how many g40's where made and posibally how many are still alive???

any help would be great.

Globally, I don't know.

In the UK there were around 500 factory Mk3 G40s, of which around 350 are still on the roads.

original i would say not many.

sorry to say this but the re is more that have been converted

most of them get killed off or been transplanted

the DVLA said 350 last year, and a few have been written off this year! so less than 350!

i know it sounds verry silly but how can i tell if mine is a genuine g40 and not just a homemade job??? :?

I think it lists the spec it was originally registered as on the V5 form, ie mine is registered as Volkswagen Polo 'C', and would remain a 'C' even if I rammed a 7 litre V8 in there. So, if yours was converted at some point it'll probably be registered as a CL or one of the special editions.
