Cold Start - Losing Revs and stalling?!

Post by diablo_red »

Hi Everyone,

Had my GTi now for about 3 months. Have had no problems until the above started happening over the last couple of weeks.

90% of the time the car starts perfectly whether it be a cold start or whatever. However, sometimes from a cold start it loses revs and cuts out. When I try again it is usually ok.

This has happened about 4 times or so in the past 2-3 weeks. There is no pattern to this, it is totally random.

Anyone any idea what the problem may be and does it need looking at? I do have 9 months still left on warranty.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like it could be similar to the problem I was having with engine sensors. Take it in asap and get the fault codes read , in particular do any erros occur when the car is switch on.

best of luck.

No errors when I switch on. Everything seems normal. It is just that on a rare occasion when I start the engine the revs start to die and sometimes cuts out.

Sometimes the revs die and it chuggs a bit and then sorts itself out but as I say 90% of the time the car starts fine with no problems.

I am a bit worried that if I take it in to get a diagnostics check it may not find anything as it is only happening on the odd occasion.

Cheers

diablo -

this has happened to me twice, completely randomly as you say, once first thing in the morning started up then a few secs later the revs died and the engine stopped then started and ran fine after that, second time i had driven a few miles to a friends then got back in the car and it done the same thing, random

someone mentioned it could be the immobiliser!??

let us know if you find anything out?

cheers

try injector cleaner first (the one pour into fuel tank) , then replace fuel filter.
You may also check if the throttle needs to be clean up.
