Is this a good deal?
Hi,
I've currently got a mk4 polo but am looking to get a gti. Been doing quite a bit of searching and found this:
Volkswagen polo gti 16v new shape 2000/w reg met silver 1.f.owner 43,000 s/history 5 doors hatch 5 speed power steering e/windows r/c/l e/sunroof air condition alloys airbags sports bucket seats r/h/r f/fogs rear spoiler gti bodykit e/m c/coded very fast car immaculate original condition must be seen.£ 4,995
From the photos it looks in v.good condition, has below average mileage and an electric sunroof. Is this a good deal?

I found that pretty much every GTi on the earth was a peice of s**t bar the odd ones owned by Enthusiasts or OAP's. Pictures dont show f**k all, i had 1600x1200 high res pics of 1 that i went to see and it looked f*****g spotless, when i got there it had loads of marks, dents, scratches etc!!
If it is in good nick it sounds about the right price!

All the ones i've found are about £5500 and have higher mileage than this. Particularly like this one as it's the only one i've seen with an electric sunroof. It's about 90 miles away though but tempted to go see it. Hopefully coming from a dealer it will also have a warrenty.

Also i'm guessing those pedals aren't standard? So is it worth travelling 90 miles to see?

Normally, things are priced for a particular reason, if it seems too good to be true it normally is! These GTis are really hard to find, the simple fact is, the majority of people that have 1, thrash it and so they tend to be very bad nick even if low miles sometimes. I drove one with 24,000 at a local dealership. It felt like it had 150,000 on the clock.
I was lucky with mine, it had 1 owner, a 65 year old doctor married to a surgeon, so she was very sensible, its pretty clear from the condition of the car that it hasnt been used much! The rear seats have never been sat in before she said and the car is practically new inside. As for the engine she used to drive on the motorway everyday to work so it never got alot of use arround the doors.
Also, it had just been in for a big service, £1200 was the bill if i remember correctly. Remember tho, its a 4 year old car. Its always going to have a 1 or 2 little problems, but chances are as long as its not serious you can sort them.
Things to make sure of:
1: Engine drives smoothly without restriction
2: Clutch is very light
3: Pedal Box has been done
4: Any paint work
Other then this, everything is cool and can be sorted. For example mine had a tiny crease in the door off someone else hitting it with their door, it only cost £40 to sort out, no paint required either so its all good! Dont worry about wheels being corroded because they all do it.
RANT OVER... sorry if i went on a little and i hope some of it is useful!

I'd be a little worried about this Polo. The picture quality isn't that great, but it doesn't appear to have Xenons and the front GTi badge looks a little dodgy. Only ever seen one all red GTi badge on the grill and that is on Dubpolo's.
Also can't make out if it has headlight washer jets, and the front splitter is painted silver. Could have been in a front end crash or the owner was a bit of an enthusiast.

Actually , I quite like the GTI in 5 door in black (makes the car look a bit more stealth like - so many small cars with 3 doors these days) that and the fact a decent 5 door came up at the delear! which just had to be snapped up.polosilver wrote:OH NO, I JUST LOOKED AT THE PICS, IT DONT HAVE CLIMATE CONTROL!!!
IMO dont buy it, no f*****g way... also 5 door!!! GAY!!!
Phill.
Did you know the 5 door has more speaker than the 3 door as standard
But I take your point, I've allways had 3 doors before and defo better
for stiffness if your going to go racing.
You also find the 5 doors less ragged most of the time, ie one women owner.
Is that supposed to be funny? The guy is looking for advice and your telling him not to buy it cos it doesn't have climate?polosilver wrote:OH NO, I JUST LOOKED AT THE PICS, IT DONT HAVE CLIMATE CONTROL!!!

Fair enough uv put IMO but at least try and be constructive.
What's wrong with just air-con? The polo is my 2nd car with air-con and though i have driven a few cars with climate, there is very little difference other than it can maintain inerior temp better but adjust the heater control on a car with air-con does exact same.
Or a 5 door? I'm sure there are a few people on here with 5 door GTi's who aren't 'GAY' as you put it?
If you can't see the attraction of a 5-door GTi, you don't appear to appreciate the car at all, 3dr or 5dr.
IMO

OK that was a little more offensive then i intended! Sorry!! Have deleted it! Yeah i drove a 3dr and it didnt have rear speakers?? All im saying is, its not that difficult to get one the same as that with climate and if he just waits he will find one!
I could have got leather but to be honest, this one was too much of a minter to be missed and leather can always be put in after (like im planning) but a shagged car is hard to revive (sp).
