Some interesting cars there guys..... how things change over time!
My first car was bought in 1995 after many years of driving parents' cars. It was a brand new Peugeot 106 1.5 diesel in Diablo Red (lovely colour). Great little handler and drank diesel at a very slow rate - easily 60mpg all the time. I modded it with upgraded ICE, nice set of chunky alloys and a racing steeing wheel. Sold it after 2 years for......
In 1997, I bought a Peugeot 106GTI in Platinum Silver (new). It was possibly the most entertaining car that I have ever owned. I also bought a 10 year old Volkswagen Polo 1.0E to use in the winter months when I garaged the 106. The only mod I made to the 106 was upgraded ICE - Kenwood Mask head unit and 10 CD changer in the boot. I had some wicked runs in that car - very little could touch it on the road as it handled so well and was powerful to boot. I couldn't bring myself to carry out any other mods as it was so perfect in standard form. This paid off when I sold it (very reluctantly as I was moving house) in 1999 with only 17k on the clock. I got £10k for it though! I also sold the Polo which had been problem-free.
In 1999, I bought the nicest but also the worst car that I have owned - a Peugeot 206 Roland Garros. It was a lovely colour and kitted with full leather and climate and a full glass roof but it was cursed from the day I got it. It was vandalised on 3 separate occasions and I sold it after 11 months for a Lupo!
In 2000, I bought a Volkswagen Lupo 1.4S in Jazz Blue as I just wanted something small to commute back and forth to work - 20 mile round trip. I changed the wheels and fitted 15" alloys but didn't get a chance to do much else as I changed it in 2002. I'd had use of a company car for most of 2001 into 2002 so the Lupo was unused and garaged with a very low mileage.
In 2002, I bought a Volkswagen Lupo 1.4TDI Sport in Black - that was a big mistake! I have now found out that black is either clean or dirty! There is no in-between! I specced the car from the factory with an alarm system and lowered it by 25mm and added 15" alloys and 195/45 tyres and a rear spoiler. I also upgraded the ICE which was subsequently stolen in a smash and grab. After replacing it, I had all the windows laminated and tinted. It looked the business when it all polished up (anyone know where it is now???). The performance and economy for such a small car was great and I was hooked back on diesels.
In 2003, I bought my current car, a Volkswagen Polo 1.9TDI Sport in Reflex Silver (spec listed below and pics in members rides). I needed a larger car for work as I had changed jobs and was also doing lots of business miles. This is probably the favourite car overall that I have owned.
I've just ordered a new Polo TDI Sport 130 in Reflex Silver which I should hopefully have in October and hope that I enjoy it as much as my current car.
