Headgasket problemo

Post by metz »

Just had to sell my Grandad to pay for this lot :-

Headgasket set
synta silver
2x g12's
box of 10x headbolts
oil filter
£60:16

As you can probably tell the headgaskets just gone...its like a james bond car now it has a lovely white smoke, smoke screen.

Anyway is there anything i'm missing or is that all i need.
Need to make it to the polo show :-(

*rant mode enabled* No wonder the cars been idling crap over the last few weeks and its felt slow, Anyway last night it must have popped the gasket properly as the coolent vanished in 10minutes.

Oil cap looks like its been through a helmans factory.

Maybe my mates right..look after your car and it costs you money..drive it into the ground and never clean it and they run for ever. hmmm...only changed oil 300 miles ago the damn thing. *rant mode disabled*

Tahrey..i tried to pay homage to you with a long "tahrey" post but i have run out of babble and feel cramp setting in so alas i must end...good bye cruel world

LOL I don't think anyone can rival Tahrey.

Unlucky about the car mate, my friends turbo blew up the other day... He's slightly angry about that too. :(

:( Ah well I guess it had to happen sooner or later. 120K on the original headgasket is pretty good going if you ask me! You might wanna get the head skimmed just to be sure its flat Should only cost about £20 and I guess matt will know where to get that done?

120k on the original gasket? *claps*

so crappy idling could be a messed up gasket then? hmmmm :(

thats poor for you, i hope its worked out alright. sixty quid doesnt sound all too harsh though, not for once every 120,000 miles!

Treat a car well and lavish attention on it, and it'll demand more. Let it know you'd scrap it over a fan belt and it'll hang in there for it's own sake.

My ranger is just like that, completely reliable and Ive only spent about £15 on it on essentials (thermostat and clutch cable) But I may have to scrap it as no one wants it and I no longer have a use for it.

(why) wont it sell? might have bits off it in that case
G12 not G2
*blink* *blink* uh.... oh... yeah, i see now. it's been a long week.
its antifreeze
thought it might be something like that but the code didnt immediately make sense like that ;)
my bottles of it just say "high quality engine coolant with antifreeze" on it with no obvious number codes.

G12 is the pink/purple coloured antifreeze that's made by VAG. It's more expensive than regular antifreeze, but it's bloody good stuff.

head bolts

Post by deathhour »

When changing your head gasket is it really necessary to get replace the head bolts? and do you need to put lock grease on the head bolts as well?

The head bolts are supposed to be re-used only once. I would just buy a new set for the sake of £10. They are torqued up pretty tight.
