arsebiscuits to it

Post by Tahrey1043 »

threw away caution and used the new time light to check / tweak the timing after easing it into the garage (so its darker)..... run nicely until it was in there and i loosened the dizzy bolts - it was a degree or so out with the old scratch marks on the head & dizzy lined up. when i moved it that tiny amount to make it spot on (hoped it would finally be totally smooth), well, the timing marks lined up but it started running crap. with and without blue sender connected (including starting with it off). arrrrgh.

improved a bit when i put it back how it was "originally" (so maybe my timing marks are a bit off, or i DO need to slip the belt one tooth) but didnt return to how smooth it was off the bat. why in the world would it do that?

in any case, i can't be arsed with it any more. i've got an appointment with a nearby MOT centre at lunchtime tomorrow, will be calling the insurers to put 24 hours cover on it (so i can rack up miles going to work at the bar tomoz eve and certainly loads going home), putting the good mk4 wheels on the front, because the best quote ive had for a 145 tyre so far is basically double what i expected (just how much IS fitting, these days??), and setting off early to take a decidedly long way round to get there. If I head off at 10am, well, i likely wont manage 100 miles on the trot, but 70 should be in grasp if i hit the motorways and dual carriageways.

lets 'ave it.

will be asking them if they can skip the emissions test due to it's age, and take it gentle on the road/handling test ... sort the tyre out at a later date ... and have another crack at the timing if its still b0ll0cks when they've finished. just pray nothing else is wrong with it. the brakes seem to work, theres no structural rust, all the suspension seems good etc... wouldnt have bloody bothered if there was a major fault with it after all!
