madness - "driving in my car"

windows down system up, in a traffic jam, old banger, hopefully it raises a few smiles

particularly because if you have the "right" greatest hits album copied straight onto your tape, it follows right up with Our House, Michael Caine, Wings of a Dove, The Sun and the Rain, and One Better Day which altogether should leave everyone in a 50 yard radius on a 20 minute natural high. awesome. and alarmingly not a one of the mentioned songs is less than 2 decades old by now. which is like led zep vs oasis.... buddy holly vs black sabbath.... or chuck berry vs what my nan grew up with.

maybe a bit of Jims Big Ego to enhance the chill factor (Ballad of Barry Allen off the new album is good both for gridlock and for shooting down the outside lane, though)
some MJ Hibbett to give a bit of witty, humourous local charm to the proceedings (if youre a midlandser)
the magic numbers work surprisingly well on the move despite being a bit annoying on a static radio, like the eagles before them.
and joe jacksons jumpin' jive always makes people go "WTF?" but sounds good

then of course
fleetwood mac - the chain
allman bros - jessica
rock star - NERD vs jason nevins
bohemian rhapsody - queen ..... in fact, again, a lot of the greatest hits album.. we will rock you, dont stop me now etc (and lot of avoiding parts of it!)
clubbed to death - rob dougan
finished symphony - hybrid

this is all stuff that has been on my in car stereo recently :D either on purpose on tape/mp3, on a random tape, or just randomly thru the 20gig mp3 player.

the last two needing a bit of beef to your stereo as they have some quite quite and subtle bits.

as ever theres one other ive forgotten thats got a great hook but cant remember it

solution 1: virgin megastore, ten-pack of TDK FE C90s, £2.98, and you're done. except for the track selecting and recording of course. fifteen hours worth...

solution 2: virgin / argos / maplins / dixons etc - car head unit tape adaptor. surprisingly when you use it you find almost all of the noise is inherent in the recording media rather than the electronics. moving along with a CD / MP3 player connected to it you'd be pressed to tell the difference between that setup and having a dedicated head unit. apart from having to change tracks / discs on the remote device of course.

I'll listen to (almost) anything to be honest. Although at the moment three of my changer's six slots are filled with the Gatecrasher Classics triple album that was released recently - awesome :D - 2nd disc is my favourite at the moment, mostly thanks to Thrillseekers' Synaesthasia, which is an all-time favourite tune of mine
