Removing GTI door cards / broken switch?

Post by JKM_GTI »

Looks like my driver side electric window switch has packed up, it will go up but not come down. The passenger switch next to the drivers one works fine, as does the door lock/open button.

1stQ) Has this happened to anyone before? i expect it is a lose connection

2ndQ) How do you get the door card off to have a look? I can only see one screw by the dash (when the door is open)

But if it is a lose connection why does it go up ok?

Hope someone can help....

Thanks in advance

you dont need to take the door card off- just prize the switch panel out carefully with a flathead screw driver from under neath. there will be a little resistance as the central locking switch sometimes becomes a little awkward when taking it off the card- but you dont need to remove the door card. thats how i changed my driverside switch anyway.

you can if you want temporarily swap the switches on that panel as well-both of them have the same pin layout andd can be used for either side.

incase you really want to take it off...

unscrew the only screw, then take off the handle cover, there are
two more screws, after that , just pull the door card out start from the lower both
conners, then upper.

careful for the door lock pin, need to press it down and lift the door
card to unhook it.
and pull the door pull to almost 90 degree,
then the door card will come out.
