problems problems problems ruin my g40 fun

ok where to start,

1-it conkc out at low rpm im guessing its the fuel line i have a replacement just chekin to see if it is a known fault

2-the exhust hangs from the centre n scrapes the floor if i go over any little bump, proped it up on some coat hanger wire n tried twisting it but no luck, - is there meant to be a centre peice holding it up???

3-wat is up with the wipers flying off at speeds such as 70mph????? any ideas as to how to have them not flying off (its like playing frispess with a dog apart from im the dog!)

4-PTFE is extinct, do u know any good alternatives? with no silicone!?

5-where can i find a set of normal front discs to go on the fron none of this fancy rubbish with lines holes n fanatastic colours!?

i appreciate all the help u have given me these pass few days, is it that hard to have a working g40?

1. This could be lots of things, might be an air leak; dodgy auxillary air valve/ISV; or a sender out.

2. There should be a hanger for the mid-section. Polo exhausts are s**t IMO, and take a bit of fiddling to get right.

3. Try re-tensioning the wiper arms - i.e. bend them!

4. Ring Pitstop Developments - their number is on the website, www.pitstopdevelopments.com They have PTFE spray in stock for under Â£15 a can if memory serves.

5. Get original equipment discs and pads from GSF or a VW dealer - GSF are cheaper. OE discs and pads are all you need.

PTFE is definatly not extinct for sure! what would i use at work on threads when making up piping systems! i no its not quite the same stuff but its definatly not extinct!

ok ok get this, driving home from work at 6am in the morning LOST in london city, then guess wat

a huge palte of metal with 2 cylinder objects on falls of the car n the car conks out!!!

i put it back up with wire n it seems to work better than before

WTF is that about?? fuel pump?

so far so bad

If it's from the rear of the car, opposite side to the exhaust then it sounds like it was the inline fuel pump and fuel filter that dropped down. Make sure they're connected properly before giving it some stick - you don't want the engine to be starved of fuel, otherwise it's engine rebuild time when a piston melts...

yes ur right m8 it smells of petrol so it must be, n yes its opposite the ehust, the car is at the garage at the moment getting sorted along with new front brake discs n pads

the car feels very unstable at 80mph could this be over inflated tired (44 PSI) or broken suspension?

also the car has no traction any ideas? standard wheels at mo with okish tires

How much did you pay for this one?

Problems happeneing within 24 hours of purchase?

Accumulator, fuel pump and fuel filter falling off, exhuast hanging and poor brakes with possible suspension problems?

It seems that a previous owner may not have looked after this one very well at all. Sort out the obvoius problems, I.E. the ones that have already happened and get the car checked over fully from multiple garages if necassary. See what else may need doing, as amstrange said you don't want to have to pay out for an engine rebuild.

I would look at how much it would cost to repair and service the whole car and charger and weigh up the costs of selling and buying another one checked by RAC/AA for problems and the only serviceable intention being the charger.

Either way good luck. I hope the problems aren't too serious and just coincidentialso soon after the purchase.

wtf 44 psi?! jesus! get it down to roughly 28-30 psi tops

sounds like you have a lemon. hopefully you can sort it out - just needs a bit of tweaking hopefully

44psi?! I'm suprised you haven't bounced off the road.. yes, that will almost certainly be why it's unstable. I run mine at 33psi and that's well above recommended unladen pressure..

I have to sympathise with the business of the wipers falling off - the plastic bracket snapped on my passenger side wiper yesterday, half way down the M4 in a downpour. Had to pull over and take the blade right off to stop it scraping up the screen, then drive to the next services with only one wiper until I could bodge it back together with electrical tape

Very inconvenient timing..

ok im gona put it down to 33 psi but at 30 psi my exhust was scraping around on every bump!

i got the car for 1900 pounds and the guy rebuilt the engine and charger this year with receipts to prove

a garage is cheking over the car fully n fixing the exhust n fuel filter mounting braket, and brakes - ill find out tomorrow the situation with the low rpm conking out

i almost lost control of the car on a bend doing 80 mph, definetly the tires, do u think its damaging to have them on such a high psi? one is actually just over 44 psi 46 i think!

Well, I know my tyres have a warning stamped on them not to exceed 44PSI to seat the beads when fitting.. and you should never run tyres are the kind of pressures that they're fitted at. For a start your tread will wear really badly in the middle of the tyres, and also you're running the risk of a blowout with such overinflation. Plus, as you said, it makes the handling seriously unsafe. I really wouldn't try to fix a broken exhaust by bodging your tyres in any way..

get the exhaust sorted, then you can run 30psi! will improve your handling, grip, tyre wear - everything! it's a death trap on that sort of psi mate.

once you get the niggling things out of the way, I'm sure it'll be a sweet ride!

ok i got the car sorted just need to pick it up

exhust sorted out along with the fuel filter mounting rack, and stopped the fuel leak i had!

brake fluid bled n rear drums adjusted so now i got brakes!

rear wheel bearings replaced

advised to cut bumper to fit exhust with standard mounting rubbers

theres some other stuff ill post wen i get the paper work just got up man (sleepy head)
