Sorry, I have googled for this but can't find anything.
I want to trade in my 1.0E for a GTi but I'm wondering if anyone has a fact sheet on the specs or anything?
What should I look out for on Gti's? Are there any optional extras that are a must? Anything I should avoid?

Try looking here where you will find a scan of the entire Polo brochure 
Every GTi comes with gas discharge headlights, BBS alloy wheels and mesh grilles at the front plus most have the GAMMA headunit and a 6-CD changer in the boot (on the left at the front as you look in the boot). The wheels might have been changed for something else but you can usually tell a GTi by the xenon headlights, as it was the only car in the range to come with them as standard, and a man would be a fool to have had them taken out and replaced with standard stuff!
Other than that, check the pedal box recall has been done (it will be done FOC by VW if it's not already been taken care of) and that all the toys and gadgets work, esp. the AC or Climate, make sure the system is gassed and goes cold properly
and finally check for accident/crash damage - you never know...
Oh and some kind of service history is always welcome... thats all I can think of atm!
