It costs £350 to get a guitar done in that mirror finish, christ knows how much that one cost!

That would take ages in Photoshop mate... looks real to me!

There was a convertable Beemer at a car show with chrome coating on, that looked nuts, but you couldn't really look at it because the reflections of lights blinded you :D

I know about the beemer. was an E46 M3 built in the states.

the first company to create a car with this finish was jaguar for an advertising promotion regarding the XJ series saloons.

Mercedes followed suit with a bunch of C-Class models

bmw have never done one themselves but the M3 done in the states was an aftermarket.

There have however been LOADS of photoshops done and they actually dont take that long to do long as you have a picture of a clean black metalic car on a sunny day with the angle of the sun giving a reflection of surroundings againt the body of the car. doesnt take long normally either- about 20-30 mins per picture.

what gives it away in the audi is the reflection under the driver side wing mirror- its just wrong and incohesive with the rest of the lines of lighting and reflection.

examples: (all photoshops)

But how do the reflections show up so clearly and in the right colour if the base colour is being changed?

I've seen some amazing things with PS but I'd love to know how that works.

im not sure to be honest as im not a photoshop guru myself! I cant use it- but i do have an eye for detail an know a chop when i see one!

this one however is REAL- was the first car ever to be made in full chrome:

one of the mercedes answers to the above (they made about four different ones: coupe, saloon, estate and convertible versions)- also real:

and the bmw made by some guy with WAY too much money in states:

can you tell the difference between the reals and the fakes? ;)

Awesome (the real ones that is). I downloaded high-res images of the Mercedes calendar in question a while back, I think it was the 2004 calender IIRC. I can provide links if anyone is interested :)

Possibly the best one (IMHO) is this image (resized for the forum!):

Having done one before myself, my guess would be black, no other colour seems to work.
