wheels and suspension

Post by ck6uk »

i got my g40 all fixed up with the expection of a rocking car a low RPM

i want to get a nice set of suspension, possibly KONI depending on wats best forthe car/wheels

wheels r going to have to be the BBS golf gti rims which look the same as g40 wheels but bigger (195/50/15) will this add more traction and will i have to change the suspension before i can put the wheels on?

currently have standard setup running gear-

also gave the charger a good grease after killing numerous cars but i may have buggered the charger as i used 3 in 1 grease by wd40 WHITE LITHIUM GREASE. theres no traces of silicone in it do u think i have f****d it completely?

Get the charger checked over ASAP, that's not the right stuff at all. I didn't say to use the stuff from PSD just for the sake of it...

It's probably only likely to affect the life of your oil seals, but I'd still get it checked out just for piece of mind.

As for wheels, I'd avoid 15"s - they're too big and heavy really for the Polo suspension in my opinion. Some people use 14"s to clear bigger brakes, but 13"s are still my preference. Entirely up to you though, if you've got the 15"s try them and see what you think.

ok so if i get oil spreying out my bodged washing machine pipe (before cache tank) i know the seals r buggered! lukily going psd wen i get a day of work!

now u said that about the wheels i guess ur right 15"s r a bit to chavvy n big and 14" r sure to alow biger brakes n a nice bit of traction, wat will the size be for the stabndard bbs ones?

cant be 195-50-14???

got to be - 185-55-14???

Really recommend you don't wait 'til they go. The sooner it's cracked open and cleaned and checked over the better. Personally I wouldn't drive the car 'til it's sorted.

tyres sizes that can be used on 14's are 195/45/14 or 185/50/14

i used to run 15" ats cups on mine, handles much better on the standard g40 13's but hasn't got anywhere near as much grip

Oi!

I've always liked my 15s tbh, coupled with the Eagle F1s I have I don't have problems getting the traction down at all and I rate the handling.

I hate driving mine on the standard wheels, doesn't ride much better and the lack of grip scares me. Steering's nice and light though!

However, having discussed this with Andy while doing my conversion I reckon it's all down to personal taste. People swear by each size of wheel, 13s, 14s and 15s.

However, I'm currently on the hunt for a nice set of 14s, but purely due to arch clearance problems and fancying a change. They're gonna be nice and wide.

15s can look very chavvy on a Polo if you choose the wrong wheel (and to be honest most 15s don't suit) but a set of cheap and s**t 13s or 14s can look just as naff.

So there! :P
