Speed Camera

Post by PhilGTi »

I was driving in a 40 zone last night, was doing about 55 as i passed a ford focus. Im not sure if he had a camera but i think he might have done. Can they get you if you are going the other way? This is what it was like...

Image

Could he do me going the other way across 3 lanes? Surely where he was parked is entrapment!?

From the info i have been told the police can use laser guns on vehicles travelling both towards them and away from them....... Depends whether he noticed you going at speed in the other direction etc.......

Thats why the Snooper S4 has the little clear plastic jobby on the top so as to sense if the laser gun is being pointed at the car from behind.

Not sure about the radar guns theough.

Hope this helps.

Not sure if all the Snoopers have the little crystal on top.... Mines the S4 Neo and at the time i think it was one of two that had it...... Mind you that was over a year ago so the range will probably have changed since then.

Are "snoopers" illegal? As in if you were stopped by a copper and he found it would he take it off you? What's the deal with them?

I think they are on about making the radar detectors illegal but the snoopers are GPS devises that you need to keep updated via the interweb. They also detect laser guns but as far as i know they are legal.

Right, Phil I've spoke to my brother and shown him your diagram (he's a copper) he said that basically the best thing you can do is wait and see, because it's dependant on how they have it all set up.

Hope that helps.

Depends entirely on what camera they were using.. if they were using a mini gatso then it'll only catch you in one direction, but many of the laser ones work both ways. I highly doubt they'd set up a trap to catch motorists in both directions from the far side of a dual carriageway though.. and bear in mind that even if the two oncoming cars weren't between you and the police car as you went past, they may have been obstructing the camera when you were actually in range.

There's nothing 'entrapment' about that setup.. probably not exactly conforming to visibility guidelines, but entrapment means that they would have to have been actually enticing you to drive above the limit.. in this situation they just would have caught you breaking the law of your own accord in a slightly sneaky manner ;)

As the others have said, no point in worrying about it until the fine comes through, chances are you're fine.

yeah i'd still like to lamp them one though, they're doing diddly squat for road safety now aren't they, just revenue and a lot of tyre smoke (unsafe braking) when people like yourself spot them.
whats needed is for some joyrider to go haring up there at 120 in a stolen car and them being unable to do anything becuase of their camera rig and that reservation being in the way... then the joyriders go cause some horrid accident that would have been prevented otherwise.

not sure if theyd get a suitable lock or shot of you like that though, if you cant see them until almost side-on. hmmm :?
