Anybody used the Inforad speed detector? Less than 80 quid

Post by david burton »

This seems like a really good price - the Inforad gps based speed detector. They're only 80 quid wich is way cheaper than any other I've seen, and they seem to have good reviews. You can program your own cameras in there too.

Josh's post on the Origin B2 made me think about these as an alternative.

Anybody used one?

http://www.lordpercy.com/toad_inforad.htm says it got 9 out of 10 cameras

but that's the only decent review I can really find, apart from non-motoring reviews

wow, the price of the GPS location and database look-up circuitry must be coming down hard ... more so than the LCD display and the chippery required to generate a screen and output it :)

i wonder, if everyone in britain ends up owning one of these, what then for the speed cameras? because they won't have a nadger's chance of making enough money to be profitably operable. or even if just those people who get nabbed by them buy the devices.

(in fact the entire system is unsustainable - no more than say 20 million drivers in the country, more than 1.5 million being zapped every year, let's say only half of the 20 go quick enough to be at risk -- shouldnt take too long for everyone to end up with 12 points.. stupidest thing is that as soon as the hard core of real dangerous speeders are all that are left, the cameras will probably be shut down. duhhh.)

anyway, that's a tempting thing for the price, even if it only pulls up 9 out of 10 (or 3 out of 10) --- its better than no warning at all. And could be good for encouraging you to keep below a certain self-imposed speed limit on a motorway cruise either for sake of economy or just as a human/noisebox-mediated cruise control.

still i'd prefer a cheap one that also has some kind of display (even just a number-strip like on an Origin*) and laser detection, plus preferably radar if possible while its still legal. any reccomendations?
