Free music? (Petrified Records)

Post by Petrified »

If anyone is interested I am going to be uploading a lot of the old stuff we put out on the record label. Eventually one bands entire back catalogue.

Here's a sample let me know what you think! (if you can be bothered!)

The band is called Nameless the song is The Salt Flats. It's quite full on.

I can upload a few more including covers of

Welcome to the machine - Pink floyd
Kings of the wild frontier - Adam ant
Reward - Julian cope

And around 15-20 original songs.

Cheers!

James.

yeah, mp3.com used to be the best, it's unbelievable they got shut down because of copyright concerns - when for the music to be there, it had to be uploaded by the original artist (or someone doing a good impression of them) in the first place, otherwise the mods zapped it.

some of my fave tunes were regularly supplied from there at one point ... for free, and legally ... but it was killed before broadband was even a twinkle in a crazed geeks eye. so sad. especially as some of the artists vanished without trace as they had no other affordable publishing method.

a replacement for it seems to have surfaced in the form of MySpace - don't know how popular it's going to be, but i already know of two internet savvy bands that i've followed for a while jumping onto that particular ship, rather than prolonging their initial iTunes fling*. you have to register to use it, whether uploading or downloading, but as of yet im not sure if there's a charge. (i've seen their introductory pages, where you get a picture, some basic information, and listen to one or two low-quality sample songs, but not got as far as registering to get the full extended-info, picture gallery, high-quality download library experience)

hopefully it'll take off, and be much like the old days but without the writs.

downloading your tune at the moment, but my internet is playing its face so it'll take a while.

* which i wasnt happy about, as i dont have a Mac, or a PC using 2000 or XP that i have install rights on. Stupid apple. Exactly what part of iTunes uses NT5-specific routines??? ... or come to think of it, what part of Google Earth?

edit: it finally downloaded...... RAWK.... like system of a down but a little more listenable :D

ares is good but i think it's a bit too hit and miss for this sort of thing - like it only scopes out the part of the net local to you, which can be kinda geographical...
