i can't afford a new pedal box

Post by nickpolo »

right, been making myself paranoid reading all the posts, so took the car out for a spin... here is what i know....

a) the car has had a new clutch a couple of weeks ago, clutch pedal is not hard to depress, but creaks ever so slightly when being depressed, this happens as the pedal is being pushed down - the first stage as it were, when i press the cluch i seem to have a stage where the pedal doesnt do much except travel down, then seems to pull clutch. i also get a slight creak as i take my foot off the cluch to let it return, you can hear these creaks when stationary, when moving road noise covers them up.

b) first can be reluctant occasionally, but if i'm stopping, and put it into first just after i've come to a stop its happy and goes in nicely, only if i leave it and the try to engae first its a little tougher.

i'm hoping (A) is a pedal bush that needs greasing

and (B) is a misaligned gearbox linkage.

neither of these are stopping me driving the car at the moment, just worrying me (a lot)

anything you can offer to dampen my paranoia would be much appreciated

ps - i bought the car at begining of august, its a 51 plate with 21,000, i have checked with vw and the pedal box recall has been done. i had the cluch replaced shortly after i got the car as it failed.

thanks guys

I sometimes get a slight creaking from the clutch pedal, most noticeably after driving for a long period of time. Mine is also a 51plate with about 27'000 miles.

As for first gear, mine can sometimes be tough to get it to engage fully. However I had the linkages checked by VW when the car was serviced and according to them it's fine :?

However my 1.0E Mk5 also suffered from a fairly irritating shift into first and reverse.

My Polo gets sqeaks all the time when depressing clutch padel,
I did gease up the bush, but didn't help.

I suspected that the sqeaks are came from the mount of the
clutch cable(the one on firewall), did you change it also?
