Hot air problem...

Hi all...I've another problem for you...and this is quite urgent, because winter season is on the way...

My 6N since a few days seems to not produce anymore hot air...i mean, even if i turn the temperature knob in the "hot" position, the fans blow out only cold air...

it happened (well i noticed the problem) after i've changed the light bulb under the central knob, maybe i was too rude and i've broken something??

belive me, it is not very funny to drive at night when it's raining and your windscreen is all "impannato" (sorry but i really don't know the english word for this....

i mean when the windscreen is covered in the interior side by "evaporated (condensed) water" i hope you understand...)

anyone can help me?? suggestions??

Yes i know that also cold air can clean up the mist (thank you for the correct word

), but with the winter season on the way i'd like also to have back the hot air option!! any other opinion??

So the fan works but you get no hot air?

If so, does the car actually warm up (check the temp guage)?

What about when driving along, does the temp go colder than sat in traffic?

Yes the fan works correctly (you hear it when you turn on it..), but even if i turn the central knob to the "red" position the air blown out is not warm...it remains the same as if the central knob is in the "blue" position...i don't understand what do you mean by check the temp gauge, you mean the one that displays the engine temperature?? that one works correctly...

ah, when driving around makes no difference if you are blocked in the traffic or not...

yeah, the one on the dash board. As the heater is heated by the engine water, I was just seeing if the engine was getting up to temperature or not.

As it is, I guess the problem lies with the dial somewhere. I don't know if the Polo's connected by a cable or electronic though. If the later I'd check your fuses; if the former then you'll have to take the dash off to see where the cable's snapped/disconnected.

I'll check for the fuses...but if they are ok, you said that i'll have to remove the dash for searching for some cables disconnected or damaged...my question is...i don't have the idea of how i can remove the central console of the polo 6n...i opened a thread some time ago but no-one answered me...maybe someone can help me?? with some pictures too?? i'm very very noob in these things...

Last sunday i've finally solved the problem...i tried to find myself the way to demount the central console, i found it, i noticed what was the problem and i solved it in a DIY way...i rensembled the all and now the hot air in my car is back!! thankyou anyway for the help...maybe i'll do a DIY tutorial titled "[6n] How to remove the centre console!!"

Notice that it took me about 3 hours for the complete work....

Lots of screws in weird places last time I took one apart from memory!!!

Thats why the haynes was handy!!!!

Must have been a loose wire from when you changed the bulb in the air control unit?

Glad it is solved for you now tho

What was the problem?

Yep lots of torx screws and lots of fun (ive dropped two screws down inside the console area, god knows where they have ended up now, hope they do not cause any problems!)

I hope i can express this in a decent english....in fact there was a loose iron wire that wasn't connected anymore to the central knob as it should be...there was also a little piece of plastic broken, so i've done a weird repair to this piece of plastic, i've reconnected the wire in the right place and i remounted the all....i know my english isn't so beautiful!!

you were lucky mate i had to replace the heater matrix in the corrado today as it had gone.had pi$$ed coolant everywhere in the passenger footwell.plus was a pain to remove.but got nice hot air again now.

just need a new centre box for the exhaust.
