phoned vw this morning, as the previous owner had a childseat and had the passenger airbag disconnected - vw want £90 to reconnect it - is this something i can do myself guys? anyone know?

Personally I'd think no, basically because it's a bit risky, I mean when you think about it it's technically an explosive device. I'd let VW do it for you, just in case.

I have the haynes manual and altho it doesnt cover the GTi the interior is almost the same on the models.

It gives 4 spanners out of 5 for the section "removing and refitting airbag components". If it was the drivers it would be a piece of p***. but for passenger you have to remove the facia which is a pain in the arse.

reading another post i notice aparently you can turn the passenger airbag on and off using the vag cable and laptop, currently my gti has the passenger airbag deactivated by vw - is this all thats needed? plugging into the system and turnign back on again? anyone know?
