Not really poor mans

Vag com cable is about £25 on ebay an the software is downloadable free

you've linked to a fault code finder, pretty poop

if you can't purchase the proper vag-com cable, do as suggested above and use the free version of vag-com software for a GUI better than a few numbers like the device in your link

it works but sometimes gives ya a code that aint in the booklet they give ya
its very handy to have in your glove box

VagCom is the way to go :)
And if you are good with soldering, you can build our self an adaptor in 30 minutes (as I did). If not just grab one from E-Bay (not more than 30pounds).
If you need more info on building one, let me know and I'll give you all the info that you need.

Could you tell me what modules you can read on your 6n?

I can't read much on 6n2 with free vagcom software :?

Yeh, I cant read much too.
All I get is: Engine (injection system), Airbags, ABS and imob.
Thats all that I have in this car :(
Maybe , in my next HighTech ( :) ) car I'll have LOTS of them to read :lol:

From what I know, the VAG1551 and VAG1552 (which are the original VW scanners if I didnt make a mistake in the numbers) use the same protocol as VAGCOM.In MK4 polos there are no more daig. computer besides the 4 that we can scan.
I dont think the dealer can read something other...

you guys say that the vag gives you 'airbags' - is this the option of deactivating them?
