Has anyone fitted Sat Nav in their 9N?

Post by mfa-polo »

I know this should be posted else where, but I was hoping one of the 9N
owners might have knowledge on the subject, or could point me in the right direction.

Had a look at a sketchy german guide and it appears you have to take
out centre console and glovebox, sounds like a nightmere!!!

Any help would be appreciated!

I use TomTom on a PDA - did look into the in dash VW one but it would mean i would lose my in dash 6 cd changer and i didn't like the idea of looking down at the screen.

Where as with my PDA it is mounted on the screen so i can glance at it and still have sight of the road.

I bought it because a mate of mine was getting rid of it cheap, thought it might enhance the resale value of the car.

Now faced with the nightmere of trying to install the sod!

Is it a VW MFD unit???

If so then its really simple, all you need to do is remove the gamma unit, then remove cubby box under radio, leaving a double din space.

Then buy one of these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-AUDI-SAT-NAV-M ... dZViewItem

Conect to MFD unit hey presto...... :D

It will fit straight in. If you get it off bodycarstyling off ebay (top bloke) you will get a magnetic ariel. Simple undo the few screws to the glovebox, feed the lead through and magnetically attach to the underside of the airbag unit.

This is what I did and works no probs.

Well thats another story (this is in my Bora) You need a special adaptor lead which only one company ive found sells (can't remember at the mo) and ive mounted mine in a custom mounted enclosure in the glovebox but you could try removing an underseat drawer (if you have one) and see if it fits in there. Don't get them in the Bora im afraid!

I have a type D, which I paid £320 for and £30 for a cable. Stuck with the radio at the moment, which is a killer. I thought i'd hook up an ipod in the glove box instead of using my 6 disc-er!
