I have recently noticed I have developed a hole round one of the bolts/nuts holding on my exhaust shroud on my mk2 polo coupe (1986 D). It doesn't seem to cause any major issues yet, but i've got a feeling it vibrating and making a bloody annoying noise.
Now my problem is that the engine being 19 years old isn't in the best state ever and all these pegs that the nuts screw onto are rotten and perished. I've already sheered one of them, does anyone have any tips on getting the nuts off and maybe a tidier way of putting the new shroud on...
Failing that if I sheer all three does anyone have any ideas on reattachment of the new one.
Yours faithfully, the new boy.

I've just realised why my carb is icingTahrey1043 wrote:you could probably get away with just removing it altogether if carb freeze has never been a problem for you...
other than that, some of that liquid block-weld stuff? or even re-welding an entirely new stub on for it?
I bet a new one's at least £3.50.

it's quite a funny thing, I don't know if it's a symptom of carb freeze but when the hot ait pipe is off every time i put the clutch down to downchange or something the engine will cut... you can convince it to keep running in a bump start time manor but this isn't ideal.
I was thinking of cleaning it up and welding new screw pegs on but didn't know if i'd run into problems welding on the exhaust manifold.

the man makes a good point, i'll have to see if i can borrow my friends mig welder and a bit of a hand with the job as my experience with welding is, um, Nil.
But this fella helped me add an inch long extention onto the steering column off my old (please no one hurt me) clio when i removed the power steering rack. but really don't want to talk about that.
thanks for your help chaps, tally ho.
*by the way i am new to the forums, been reading them for a few weeks and been a very proud mk2 polo for about 4 months.
