I've heard of upgrading, but de-grading?

Post by ciden »

VWSA has decided to degrade some of their cars. Our local range is very limited to 4 engines and basically 2 trim levels. The 1.6 Standard models that came fully colour coded, will now feature black door strips, side mirrors and door handles. My question is - why??

I was also heavily dissapointed in the new 1.9TDi. Being the only model available in 3-door form locally, it has basically the same interior as my car (Comfortline), except different grey cloth seats. No chrome rings around the dial, no lights at the back. @ almost £13,600, VWSA should've better equiped the cars!

Hi ciden,

Don't expect these guys to reply to your posts...They've never replied to my posts

Have you visited the VW Club of SA forums?

We're a much friendlier bunch, and local too

They'll be doing it to cut costs. Every chrome ring round the dial adds up to a big saving, all that primer, paint there not using for the bump strips/mirrors and door handles adds up too!

lol, gee thanks!

That kinda sucks...they shouldnt be de-grading...but i suppose businesses will do anything to cut costs........wonder what reason they have for thinking the items they have got rid of are not needed?

Talk about revive an old post.

Bit harsh Viceroy, ppl may only not reply as they don't know how to help. Still each open to their own opinion i guess.

Degrading i can remember on the 9n here was the loss of rear disk brakes to the 1.4 petrol models to drums.

Another example of VW cost cutting I guess, as a few have mentioned. Has been done over here, over the years.

Bit harsh viceroy, as sidaba says, most people dont reply if they dont have an answer.

I think its great that we have members from all over the world, certainly wouldnt be ignoring people.

I wouldn't say its harsh at all.

I've not asked questions, in fact I've offered to get prices for accessories from a local dealer when someone posted about them.

Pretty much every forum I've ever been on has at the bare minimum welcomed new users

So what do you want; a ticker-tape parade?

If you want people to welcome you, it's advisable to do it in a new thread and not tie it on to a dying one, without even mentioning that you are actually new in the first place
