Petrol Consumption

Post by dave-h »

Hi everyone i feel as if i am dragging over old coals,But this one is just for the owners of the 1.2 3 cylinder 9N model.I flled my Polo up and achieved 300 miles on a full tank. Mainly round town Question is, Is this good ,bad, average? you see i worked it out to about 30mpg .My wife's Golf (i know what you are thinkiking she has further to travel to work) on the other hand is real economical on fuel.
Are my calculations wrong for the Polo? Otherwise i am really happy with the way the car handles and every thing else
Thanx for all replies

I do around 70miles a day on mixed roads and get about 350 - 360 mile on a tank of fuel. but when the car was new it was only getting around 300. fuel econ started getting better at about 10k.

my polo has only got 4000 miles on the clock and I was allways led to believe that the more miles on the clock less mpg ie: worn rings etc. Still no stranger than the golf which was consuming oil and when i had it serviced the oil consumption stopped.I will have to look further into this
fenoniman.
Anyway thanks for the reply

I have just looked at the technical data for the polo 3 cylinder 55 bhp.
The petrol tank holds 45 lts of which 7 lts is reserve.Which makes it 38 lts.
I filled the tank up drove 300 miles red light came on which i presume means i am on the reserve. So 38 divided into 300 is 7.89 acording to my calculator, which in turn means i get 7.89 miles per ltr of petrol. Does any one know what this means in imperial measurements?
The Renault gets 400 miles from a tank is that 400 down to the reserve?
or 400 for the full tank? If that is 400miles down to the reserve, then i definatlley feel sick.

7.89 miles per liter = 35.87 miles per gallon.

Mrs NornIron's 1.2 liter (55PS) has averaged 36.03 mpg over the past 2,700 miles...mainly local stop-start driving.

round town I get 300 per tank on motorway just over 400, 6,500 miles covered so far, not fantastic for economy, my 1.8 mg tf was better.

i just got about 330 miles on a tank of some round the doors and country road driving. putting my foot down now and again-not that often though.

probably one of my best tanks yet! but this is the one that filled up 46L last week.
this week i was lower on the red, yet only took 42L this time round. we'l see what i get this time
