It's a pretty cool little concept isn't it 8)

More (high-res) pics here.

The diesel powerplant's new technology (kind of an advanced version of the pumpe-duse technology in use at the moment) is likely to make it's way into production Volkswagens by 2007 apparently :)

WOW! Are they taking orders now? :D

Car looks sooooo nice! I like the fact that it turns from a coupe into a roaster.

It won't make production I'm afraid guys :( but it does showcase VW's sportier side and what they are developing for the future model range(s) in the engine department!

The body is a carbonfibre monocoque, the suspension is bespoke (lightweight aluminium etc) and the result is a mid-engined sports car with a weight of only 850kg! I want one too :twisted:

Maybe we'll see some of the features of the Eco Racer on the forthcoming Polo roadster? Now that is something to look forward to :D

looks neat :D

but why do they keep coming up with all these great, workable economy concepts (oko-polo, "3L" lupo, that odd 2 seat aerial-atom-style thing, amongst others) and getting so few into production??? (...formel E variant with automatic engine shutoff being the only live example i can imagine, that and the golf GTD?)

and where's our hybrids already god damnit!! take that 134bhp, 100mpg ex-urban powertrain and mate it up with a small leccy motor and battery pack, make it at least 100mpg combined. come OOONNNNNN VW!

looks even cooler now i got to see the high rez images :)

"but":
= too much of impression of a Daihatsu Copen (particularly one that's been crossed with a trout, and then shown something really shocking)
= how does the convertible bit actually work? looks like the top gullwingy bits are easy snap fits, but how e.g. do you cut the screen down and store it? (the open one only has a mini fairing)
= still think they should electrify, or at least hybridise it, AND bring it to market. the chance is too good to miss.
