eBay and MK3 parts...

Just curious, but what do you put in the search box when searching for MK3 accessories/upgrades?

I've tried Polo MK3, Polo (then looked through all the advertisements for MK3 bits), polo MKIII, polo 3...

I've tried a hell of a combination on eBay, listed just some of those above, but simply can't find anything on eBay.

I've been looking for the M3 Crystal tail lights for the MK3, and now i think that no1 makes them... Shame that, because i've found some for the MK2 on awesome-gti. If not the M3 Crystal lights, i'd love to fit the half tinted lights. They really suit the car too.

Would anyone have any ideas on how to find MK3 parts on eBay? Maybe something i am doing wrong?

They look okay on the right car. Same for the crystal headlights and indicators.

looks alright to me, especially as you dont have much choice on 'em - stock, tints, crystal or lexi...

if you're really stuck putting "2F" (the official designation - mk2 Facelift, with the commonly-named mk4 actually being the "6n" true mk3) or a particular year (between 91 and 95) may be of use

I might give them M3 crystals a try that krupa posted... Not really sure how they'll look at the moment though.

I'm genereally guessing that it should suit the color of my car.

Where can i get those? Were they off eBay?

Have found some different looking ones on eBay... Their a cross between the lexus and M3 style i think.

Personal liking i guess, they look good on eBay though. Hope they look good on the car.

Just a matter of saving up now.

How rare are fog lights for the MK3?

not too rare, but depends what you want really

stock ones can be got hold of, that go in the bumper cutouts, or aftermarket things that will fit in the lower grille are an alternative. both require some physical modding of the bumper though (sawing & sanding the cutouts for the official ones, drilling mount holes for the aftermarkets) and wiring-in (cutting and taping/soldering) as the stuff isn't pre-installed on non fogged cars - so only attempt if you're confident in your abilities in that department or know someone who's good at it.

It's half tinted or stock for me as far as rear lights go, I'd be half tempted if they did an m3 style (clear instead of smoked bits) but not if they were crystal.

It's too old a car to have lights like that IMHO.

Fog lights are like hen's teeth. You can buy them new from Volks Apart for Â£90 each, or wait for a show special and buy them for Â£50 a side.

Or you can be a jammy git like me, and you'll find a set for Â£15 meaning everyone hates you!

Mk3 foglights suck willies though, and they make a feeble attempt at doing that. They light up the kerb a little bit when it's foggy, but that's all.

Mine have uprated bulbs and an uprated wiring loom, and they are still poo.

Comsidered selling mine off the G and making some brake ducts as i tend to give mine some abuse sometimes

but then realised that they're there to look good,not actually be any use in the fog

I like the look of mine, and they've got a decent bit of power behind them. They're maybe not everyone's (and certainly not a purists) cup of tea though, as they're Hella Microlines that fit into the lower grille (quite snugly, almost look like they belong) and obviously not OEM. Better than the usual chav nano-lights that are useless for anything but blinding folk, however.

The main problem with mk3 (and mk2?) front fogs, that I was going to try and solve but never got round to, is the wiring of the headlight and foglight switches. Stock, they work such that you can only have fogs on when the dipped beams are on, and if you've ever tried driving thru thick fog with this setup you'll know it is next to useless - the headlamps defeat the good work the fogs do. More modern cars allow you to use the fogs with the sidelights, a lot more of a practical arrangement (chav abuse of it aside). From the wiring diagrams it doesn't look like it would be too hard to fix up a mk3 to work this way - and there's always the option of using the dedicated switch supplied with the fitting kit - but it would of course take time and need a little bit of risk, which I don't think I can be bothered with now.

It's only main beam that will blind you if you're in fog though isn't it? Dipped beam points downwards, doesn't reflect badly off the fog.

That's certainly been my experience!

What foglights do in these circumstances (I find) is that in very dense fog they cut through it and illuminate the kerb/white lines making it easier to find the road.

Because they're so low to the ground they can't blind you either.

Not that I could ever see Polo fogs blinding anyone anyway.

you'd think so wouldn't you, but no ... i found that out when i was all smug thinking .... ah.... blanket of fog has descended on me as i'm out driving across wales trying to get somewhere .. i'll just stop, nip out, pull the covers off my fogs and be on my way.

er, no.

dipped beams reflecting off the fog, interacting with the once-every-100-yards sodium lights (didn't help, made everything into a dim orange fuzz), and fogs not being able to do much of anything - dim awareness of their illumination being there, but having to stare through the snowblinding glare of the dips. they're not THAT dipped.

so instead picking my way up this bizarrely half-streetlit country lane (no road markings, at all) at 10-15 mph with only my sidelights on (best setting i found, even tried full beams), barely able to see which way to steer, hoping to high heaven no idiot comes screaming up from either direction and smacks into me.

sides + fogs would have worked a lot better i think - would have doubled my sight distance by picking out the verge vs tarmac ahead. would still have only been 15-20mph, but an improvement, and safer.
