I’m happy to announce that we are about to release our new stainless steel four branch manifold and exhaust system designed specifically for the G40.
Since Supersprint discontinued their Four Branch manifold (which was a Polo GT item anyway) there has not really been a quality product to fill the void barring a couple of German systems which are virtually unobtainable and carry a premium price tag.
To fill that void we have developed a manifold and a full exhaust system to compliment it. The design criteria for this component was for a manifold that that was free flowing to mate up with other components such as the big valve heads used on the 1341cc engines. To achieve uninterrupted flow we have spec’ed 28mm diameter primary runner that are uniform in length and have a smooth transition into the collectors where they converge into two secondary link pipes near the ARB. The Link pipes converge from two into one with a collector which terminates where the OE catalyst/de-cat down pipe terminates to a 63mm bore. In this collector the Lambda probe boss is situated and a secondary blanked lambda boss which can be used for gas sampling with an Air fuel meter to set the engine up. The No’1 Primary has plenty of clearance on the G40 charger and all primary’s have plenty of clearance on the PSD Eaton Conversion, an application where the manifold will be much need to aid flow as the OE manifold becomes a bottle neck. The G40 engine mount is left intact so there is no need to hack bits off to make the four branch to it which is a necessity to fit other brands of manifold. Although the secondary charger support bracket is not upon the manifold pictured, it will be on all other production manifolds for those wanting to keep the charger fitment OE or use the secondary bracket for other applications.
From the manifold back the system continues a constant 63mm bore right the way back to the tailpipe. The pipe has been worked around the exhaust tunnel in a manner where the pipe diameter is not deformed where it bends. Body/axle clearance has been maximized to eliminate contact whist not compromising ground clearance on lowered cars. The tailpipe is an understated, unrolled, 63mm plain polished pipe which has adequate clearance of the rear bumper and valence with no modifications. The system has one large rear box which contains a large, effective silencer to keep noise levels down to a minimum.
All systems and manifolds come with a lifetime warranty against defects, please note this does not extend to them being dragged down the road when your rubbers break.
The test car has responded beyond our expectations performance wise. I have covered quite a few miles in it over the last few days and have noticed improvements in drivability and power delivery across the whole power band.
The gain in low RPM torque was the first merit I noticed. Planting your right foot at 2000rpm in any gear and the car starts to pull smoothly with a linier power delivery all the way though to 6000rpm. The first test car is a stock 1272cc with stock head and cam running a 51mm throttle body, GT inlet manifold, toothed belts, PSD map and full blend charger. The improvements on this mildly tuned car are marked to say the least. Test car number two with 1341cc and other goodies will soon be up and running soon which should see even more gains.
