Ok ok so I know its in the wrong section but I need help...
I cant get my wheel locking nuts off... I bought a new set to get my ones off but they just keep slipping off...
VW said they'll do it for £95+vat which im not prepared to pay for someone to unscrew 4 nuts.... other back street mechanics charge between £20 (but will take them off with a chizzle so hell no to that) up to £60....

What do you guys recommend as any help would be much appreciated.

If I had a flat tyre im f00ked bcos i wont be able to change the tyre or nothing...

i got an impact socket when this happened to me... you'll need a 17/18/19 mm size depending on your locking nut size...

basically get one that you can smack over the top of the locking nut and effectivley crush it into shape and then you can turn it out...

worked on the 3 of mine that got stuck!

my local garage removed some on my g that i'd lost the key for. they has some special sockets that are knocked on the nut, and then have spiral type insides which grip the nut tighter the more you try to undo it.

did mine for free too :wink:

i dont 100% understand... these things sort of mould into shape??
Any idea where i can get one from?

Who would have thought 4 nuts could cause so much trouble...argh

no an impact socket is the same shape as any socket that you would get with a socket set the only difference is they're a bit thicker and stronger, designed to be hit with a hammer, ie to smack onto your wheel nuts and the nut will crush and not the socket...

halfords do them singularly otherwise B&Q etc...

i had the same problem...luckily an old lady crashed into me and the garage the cars is being repaired at are sorting it out for me courtesy of my insurance :) lol
go figure.

i got 3 of the bloody things off which only leave one....

I cant get it off bcos the nuts all damaged.... from being hammered & all sorts... will have to visit some garages 2moro.... this has got to come off.... & yeah i've damaged my old alloys a bit which im not too happy about :x

But if you go to a decent garage they wil have one and charge you for it's use in their hands!!!

How do these things work? Do I hammer them over the nut & they'll stick onto it so I can unscrew it?

Nah - on a short extension attached to an Air gun wound up to top pressure and set to reverse thrust!!! - they screw over the locking bolt crushing and gripping untill finally they spin the bolt out......

The fun bit is getting it (the old bolt) out of the socket!!!

Brand new wheels on a week and had this problem, 3 garages tried to get them off, ( yes they were that tight and had a cup around them so that you couldnt just hammer something over the top! Nightmere!!
Paid £280 to have vw remove them! luckaly they did not damage anything in the process.

VW are a joke,.... they said £95+vat for me tho... that an hourly rate but i bet theyll say it took more than an hour and charge more...
Pricey stuff just to unscrew 4 nuts...

Im taking mine to the garage 2moro and have something velded on the nut and the unscrewed.... when it comes to this you'd pay just about any price to get them off....

If you have a puncture you cant do anything....
Theres so many disadvantages of having them I noticed.... but still need to put them in order to prevent ur wheel being nicked... u cant win!

the ones i had came with the wheels and were so bad they were so soft my problem was the key had bits around the edge and they had all gone smooth !!!
you want to get mc gaurd locking wheel nuts!
