Engine judder, small thumps on idle

Post by Reeyad »

Hi all I wonder if u can help, just purchased a X reg GTi, noticed on idle I think especialy when the engined has warmed it judders and seem like small thumps from the engine.

I have been told this is the timing and needs to be sorted, it has 1 year used VW warrentee so may call VW care 2mo.

Any1 have any ideas what i could be.

I've noticed a slight judder in mine too. Its most noticeable when i'm in either 3rd 4th or 5th but when i'm just cruising along in traffic, when i slow down and the revs drop to between 1200-1500, when i try to accelerate, it sought of goes....stops.....then goes. I have noticed that my HT leads keep popping up out of there recess in the engine. Might be worth checking your HT leads and spark plugs. I'm gonna change mine when i get chance.

Unless timing is the problem.

Help appreciated guys. :?:

IT was the HT leads, they was a small split and it was arping.

VW care came down a real VW lover showed me pics of his mk2 and m1 golfs.

Switched me car on, rev it and he knew what it was straight away, didnt have the leads to hand fix it temporaly with some insulating tape will go to the dealer next weekend get the leads fixed.

Yes m8, plug and play as you put it, just make sure you put the correct leads in the correct plugs etc... do them one at a time so you don't mix them up. I made mine GTi red :D

There were 2 splits in mine, 1 was on the tube wire and the other major 1 was on the head in between the rubber grooves, what difference it made to the car, as soon as I fired it up the engine sound was so much sweeter

As am new to the GTi i didnt realise how much power loss it was causing as it didnt fireup all cyclinders.

Its runing fine but I will get VW warrentee to replace with brand new leads.

As the VW care guy didnt have them on him......
