Aux Belt tensioner

Post by mike-snapper »

My Altenator belt's tensioner is wining and I suspect is about to go south on me. I have purchaced a new unit, however as the tensioner isn't at fault i just wanted to change the pulley.
However the New pulley won't fit the old tensioner. How do I remove this unit, It appears to have a screw thread in the back of it, the part you can't see when installed,
1, what size bolt attaches it, hex or splined?
2 is this thin pre tensioned?
3 what else do I have to be able to reach this thing, Oil filer exhaust manifold?
please help.

It's a 1995 Polo 1.4 L model with Power steering no AC. AEX engine. The tensioner appears to be sold with the spring unit and is accessed from behind the alternator unit by removing the oil filter and possibly the front of the engine. I'll let you know in a few days when I have tried to get it out and replace it.
The car is looking like it's going to be replaced for a new one sooner rather than later though.
