first up, the CEG box had a bit of a whine under power at speed in 4th and 5th, it's pretty quiet (can't hear it at all with the stereo on) and disappears off the throttle. I've checked the oil levels 'n' all, is this fairly normal? It's high pitched, like halfway to being a TV tube noise.
secondly ... the engine's always been a bit more vocal and rough in the depths of winter, particularly when starting directly after being stood in a couple days frost, but usually well behaved and reliable. When I last ran it, however, it seemed to be suffering terribly, couldn't keep itself running without me babying the throttle (at standstill, in neutral), had no power whatsoever until about 2000-2500 revs, engine speed just dropped (first hard, then ever more gradually) until it guttered out if i removed foot pressure. Got better as the temperature climbed, even before out of blue zone it was more stable, but wasn't proper until an indicated 70.
(think that's more like 60 though, as the fan isn't switching on til the needle's gone just past 100, and there's no sign of boiling)
what would that be? please not the temp sender again, i don't want to be once more arsing about with things that could send coolant flying everywhere!
might it be the chip, even?
thirdly ... is it possible to readjust the ARB without having to jack the car right up on both sides? I tightened mine up before i dropped it as i'd had enough of it causing me arse-ache (literally), and other's comments about this making the car sit up like a 4x4 might explain the slightly reduced motorway performance (less aerodynamic) amongst other things.
if not, is it just a case of jack it, loosen the bolts slightly, drop it and tighten them?
Cheers
PS Hammerite Kurust, my current choice of metal restorer, but is it actually any good?
