Removing the rear screen

Post by minis84 »

Hey

How easy is to remove the rear screen?

My heated elements don't work (well only 2 of 'em), and I've had a look at repairing them, big sections of each element are damaged, so beyond repair really.

I've had a look, it seems like its bonded in place, is it still possible to get glass aftermarket or is it a case of put up with it?

Thanks

Tom

if its a coupe model you have then it will be bonded! i'm pritty sure you are still able to get new ones, i never have got one myself, but i wouldn't see why uoi couldn't!

this is something i'd like to do at some point as although most of mine work, it leaves a bit line write in the middle where there are a couple that don't work!

yeah its the Coupe - I think I might get in touch with autoglass, see how much they'd charge to fit one for me....assuming they're still available.

Does anyone else know?

(thanks Spikey!)

Just repair the broken tracks, you can buy a contact pen for it.

I've looked into that Hardhitter, went and bought something similar, but some sections of the elements literally have an inch missing - would I still be able to get good contacts even with that much missing?

This 'contact pen' - where would I get one from? I bought an element repair kit from Halfords, but its a bit like Araldite, has to be mixed I think.

Make sure you're sat down when you call Autoglass for a quote.

£116 plus fitting for the front quarterlight.

£180 plus window cost to fit the three windows that some pikey t**t smashed on my car the other week.

They are anything but cheap.

ouch, yeah I thought it would be expensive, I bet I'm looking in the region of £200 for a rear screen. Maybe I'll try repair it then... :D....gotta be worth a go.
