As you may or may not know I'm doing a postgraduate Journalism course at Cardiff University. Part of my course is a practical session where we will get to produce our own magazine. I will hopefully be starting a car mag with some fellow Journalism students, to go into full production in the new year.
We're looking at a focus on car enthusiasts with a budget, and basically people who are into all sorts from restored classics (though I can't see many Jag E Types wanting a look in) through to newer modified cars. We may also include a motorsport section, and will probably have some DIY guides.
As car enthusiasts, your input would be very helpful as far as the launch goes. Basically we're interested to hear what you would like out of a car magazine, and what you wouldn't like.
Any help you can offer is very gratefully received!
New car mag possibility - your input required

a few things that sets a mag off i find is......
A page or two containing 'readers letters' (or questions and answers)
leading on from that you could have 'readers rides'
A 'For Sale' section
DIY section could include how to do budget mods and have a rating on how difficult the mod was to finish.
free car poster (for the kids and big kids)
just a few ideas.....
good luck with it all, im sure everyone will want to give good support into your project.

b00bs........! hahahaha..
nah im kidding .... well........
Deffo like to see a readers letters section, as mentioned above.
I like Diy guides, but with such a huge range of cars you are going to be covering you would have to think carefully about the type of guides featured in order to attract most interest. After all , if i saw a mag with a diy guide for something i really wanted to do with my car i would definately buy it.

A couple of features of some nicely done cars is always good for ideas etc.. not how they do it in max power though, they seem to make cars look worse than they are
Some proper coverage of proper meets could also work but again better than the photos and gay 1 liners you see in Max power etc
all of the above too

Nude chicks will make it easier to sell...
Maybe recommend some products page... eg... Alloy cleaner...toutch up paints... Just to kill a bit of space.
If you have a project car... Have a page or 2.... showing your progress & perhaps let readers express their views on what they think so far of it...

Hi all, just wanted to say thanks for the info and apologies for the lack of replies though I have been reading and adding your points to group discussions on the mag.
We spent a few hours sat around a table last night discussing what ideas and contributions we had been given for the mag, and we've pretty much plotted out our first issue in ideas if not in actual features. Our lecturers have been looking over it today, and we'll get some feedback tomorrow.
It'll be car modification of all sorts, from all scenes, with motorsport coverage and DIY tips and tricks. That's about as much as I can tell you at the moment though.

hi mate
don't want to blow my own trumpet, but I own a MKIII as a second car and modify/improve it as a hobby. My profession is a Lecturer in Aerospace Engineering (tech help or advice). and I live in the Rhondda Valleys and work near Cardiff Airport. If I can help you with your studies then drop me a PM or E-mail me
