New member! Have I bought a moneypit??!

Post by Zoe321 »

Hi all. Bought a black 91 J reg 1.3 CL Coupe a couple of months ago for £350. As much as I love it, it's not an easy drive and one by one things are starting to go wrong! The latest is the indicators which won't work at all - they're fine on the hazards though.

As i'm a useless girl, I suppose i'm just wondering what other things are common in a VW of this age so I can brace myself!

By the way, there's 98500 on the clock, 8 previous owners and i've got no service history for it :(

On a brighter note, it sailed it's MOT last week :)

Sorry to dive straight in firing questions at you all but i'm going for the cheeky damsel in distress approach!

HI zoe and welcome to the forum. don't worry most of the guys on here love a damsel in distress (even the ones that don't admit to it  ). If the car went through it's MOT without any problems I shouldn't worry too much. Sounds to me as though your car is lacking in TLC. My advice is not to look at all of the problems you have in one go as this will sooon become depressing. Instead, just tackle each problem one at a time (in order of annoyance  ).

On a final note, I have found that the mark III if properly looked after is one of the most reliable cars that I have ever owned.

Good luck and don't forget to post regularly with any specific problems that you have, there is generally someone on the forum that can help

Welcome to the forum

Possibly the connector has come off the indicator stork?

the guys on here know their stuff so 95% of the time someone will be able to give you advice, especially as your name is zoe, that'll give you some extra brownie points

Welcome :D

If it's just sailed through the MOT then it can't be bad at all! :P

Job done!
Went out at the weekend with the trusty Haynes manual. Didn't manage to sort the indicators but topped up all of the vitals and changed a side light bulb.
Boyfriend admitted that the sight of me covered in car-muck under the bonnet was rather doing it for him  .

Friend sorted the indicators this morning, just a loose wire after all that!

Still got a list as long as me arm of other niggles though. Might post it later and get some advice on which order to tackle them!

Thanks for all your help :)
