Audi R10 - Diesel Le Mans Racer

Post by Redline »

I know Audi talked about building a diesel Le Mans car, but I never thought they would actually do it. Well they've proved me wrong as they launched the R10 today. It's quite something:

Check the figures though:

5.5litre Twin-Turbo Diesel V12
650+bhp, 800+ lb ft torque

Granted thats not as impressive as the Veyron  but for a coal-burner it's impressive. Apparently it's more powerful that the previous petrol FSI R8, so Audi Motorsport had to reequip their engine dynos to cope with the torque!

Jesus, isn't the Torque usually less than the BHP on Petrol cars? If so, maybe that's an advantage using a diesel.

Will sound funny chugging away though.
