FITTING 17" ALLOY WHEELS

Post by tntuk »

Hi Guys,

Whats the proper way to get 17" wheels on a polo gti? Otherwords, what needs to be done to get them on without problems. I heard somewhere that it's not as straight forward. Seems that all the rims I like are only available in 17"............sooooooo unlucky! LOL! :(

I understand when u say u like the design of 17" alloys however I would say have a look at GTi's with 17" on in my opinion they look to big, out of proportion and really mess up the looks of the car.

No offence to 17" owners modding is personal, I love my BBS I think they suit the car so well specialy on a Black GTi, they are a bit*h to clean tho

I hear that mate, very painful job on the old fingers. I think that 17's look a bit too big as well, unless you are willing to do the work Jordan has had to do to get the car as low as it is, IMO his wheels look good.

Guys,

My car has 17's and is sitting 30mm lower thanks to the eibach springs. It does rub slightly but not enough to worry about. It just touches the plastic arch liner on half lock but pull it round to full lock and its clear. I dont agree with the fact it ruins the look of the car. I think they do look smart on 17's, however I would think it through because the ride is harsh and quite skitty. Its upto you:

Regarding whether 17"s look too big, think it depends on the style of the wheel a lot.

BBS-style multi-spoke stuff doesn't look "as" big, because generally the spokes dont go all the way out to the edge of the rim. Whereas some of the more conventional wheels with big flat spokes all the way to the edge seem bigger.

That's my theory anyway, and part of the reason I've gone for 16s. Each to their own, thats what it's all about.

17"s make your car look a lot better in my opinion, big wheels always look better :-p

Like people say though its all about your personal taste, ive had far more comments about my car when its 17"s are on than if i just have my BBS's. The 17"s just give it that extra bit i think, although my car handles like a go kart with the 15"s on the 17"s do slightly decrease your handling.

Like 'macca_welland' said the handling can be skittish, makes me drive slower though!!! hah i find im always racing around on my 15"s :( and i dont want another ban !!

My theory is, have 17"s for summer when you wanna be seen and put on yr BBS's for winter like i do !!!

Also another thing to remember with big heavy 17"s, your fuel consupmtion goes out of the window !!! With my 17"s and my BMC induction kit, i get around 200 miles to a full tank !!!! hahah

i do extend my right foot a lot though :-p

Let me know what you end up doing 'tntuk' ! would be interested as to what action u take !

i'd have to agree it is down to peronal taste! i think the polo looks much better lowered with smaller than 17'' wheels on, somestimes 17'' wheels can make a car look like an off roader! my opinion is if ur gona stick with 15's then they need sum sort of dish, if not then get 16's

i am hopefully getting some 15x7.5 ronal ls soon! :D

I'd say go for a happy medium and get 16" wheels. Check out Cyhliu's car and you'll see what i mean. He has 16" BBS's and they look the game. 8)

By far the best example I've seen of a Polo GTi on 17's has to be Jordans I think, if you go that low on 17's then you're gonna look good, if not then IMO it won't look as good.

My Polo is on 17's and i must say that im quite impressed with it. I did however have the car lowered as it was mentioned that if i didn't the wheels would too big for the car and look silly.

i'm hoping to get pictures on soon! :)
