Colour coding bump strips and valances

Ive seen a few MK6s with colour coded bump strips and rear valances, and i think they completely change the look of the car. Especially ones in Silver. How much would i be likely to pay for my existing bump strips all around the car to be sprayed in Reflex Silver and the rear valance? I have the colour coded mirrors and door handles, and i think that cc'd bump strips and valance will really set it off

I heard that black ones are textured and they dont hold the paint very well unless they are rubbed down to remove this

Â£400??? Are you sure? I wouldnt think It would be anymore than about Â£100-Â£150?! When buying a polo new the colour pack is only Â£75, giving you painted door trim, bumper trim, handles and mirrors! Why no just go for it from the factory? As long as then have been well rubbed down, and when painted they are oven baked the paint should hold fine.

Thats what i was thinking! Â£400 is a bit steep.

for primed bump strips all round its about Â£150ish and then they need painting. I wish the bloody previous owner chose the colour pack. I got the cc mirrors and handles, as my model is meant to come with, just not the strips.

I bought the car slightly used, and it was from a independant dealer, so i guess i cannot still go for the colour pack, as Â£75 is a nice price

yeah i got quoted around that when i considered not getting the color pack from the factory and color coding the:

bumper strips front and rear
bump strips down the side (5dr)
4 door handles
mirror casings
front and rear lower valances
and side sills (mine were black

at first) Â£400

so in the end i got the color pack then left the valances black

orite, u have the SE dont ya with cc'd handles and mirrors already

quote around , im sure u can get it for less.

cost me Â£21 for a litre of summer blue and Â£40 off a mate to paint front and rear valances
left the bump strips as i like them

yeah getting it done properly it will be around 350 to 400...

chemical cleaner, wet and dry paper it, plastic adhesion promoter, FLEXIBLE primer- paint etc

i was offered cc bump strips when i bought it brand new for Â£100 more but i said, its black and so are the plastic strips
couple of summers later i noticed that black plastic fades in the sun and looks crap against a polished car, even if you back to black it.

i was quoted 450 to cc the front back and side bump strips, mirrors, handles, and front grilles.

i spoke to vw about cc'ing just the bump strips as i thought it'd be cheeper to do it myself, they want about 150 for just the smooth side strips in primer and then about Â£10 a spray can of paint and another Â£10 a spray can of laquer so bout Â£170 for just the sides, and thats if you paint and fit it your self

i was told if you pull off the original textured side strips you cant put them back on so you need to buy new ones (so you may as well buy smooth ones already in primer ready to spray) and spray it your self. thats what i'm gonna do when the its summer

Man I cant belive the prices you guys are getting quoted! My dad fixes up motorbikes and gets a bike painted once a week! He gets 23 panels done for Â£350! If I was getting quoted Â£400 for 4-6 small parts I tell them to shove it up there arse! Always ask how much for a cash deal!

Well got a few quotes today. I got Â£250 for the existing ones. thats to rub em down too. Which aint too bad. Still gonna try and get a cheaper price though.

Nice one! Keep shopping about and try get it abit cheaper, but remeber make sure its well prep'd and also when painted it needs to be placed in the oven. Good luck and happy dubbing!

when i was shopping round i got a quote for Â£100 for all the bump strips, to knock them back, mask it up, primer and paint them.

spoke to another body shop and they said you can do it like that by the finish wont be very good. something about a bulge in the paint on the edges of the strips or summin, he said the best way is to take em off, scrap them, buy new ones, spray em and then put them back on - hense the price tag for doing it.

cheapest is not always best

I would agree if you could afford then buy new primered one's from vag parts and get them painted, Should be no more than Â£100 max for them to paint. Also never paint them on the car! If a bodyshop suggests this then walk away! Take them off then get them painted
