Help: knocking noise from rear suspension
Help: knocking noise from rear suspension
My dad has a Mk6 Polo TDi (2002 model) and is having some problems with a knocking noise coming from the rear end of the car when driven over rough roads.
when the car is going over a speed bump the front end also creaks
anyone else had this problem before and know what the cure is for this problem
its not under warranty therefore he would like to pinpoint the problem instead of having to pay someone to find the problem area.
Many Thanks chaps and chapets

Thanks M7 for the reply, I had found your thread in a previous search I did but yours sounds more like modded-related noises (?).
The main concern my dad is worried about is the random knocking noises from the rear
The front doesn't really bother him atm
One thing he has noticed is that the plastic piece bit of the damper has dropped down and is not joined onto the bump-stop anymore...the knock doesn't sound like its this rattling though...
The only mod he has is 17" BBS's, no lowering so its not the wheels fowling in the arches.
Sorry to be vague but TIA for any help/suggestions

Thanks for the replies guys! So sounds like its a bushes problem then
I'll pass this info on and I expect my dad will make a trip to VW, see what they suggest seeing as warranty is outta the question.
Funny how there's always something that goes wrong on your car just after warranty finishes
Will keep you posted...

Well this weekend my dads finally got his car fixed at VW
Diagnosis was the plastic shields underneath the anti-roll bar brackets had cracked/broken, allowing the roll-bar to move around especially when cornering, hitting the car body, hense the knocking sounds.
New upgraded anti-roll bars have metal instead of the plastic so it shouldn't happen.
He had replacement rear shocker bump stops, new front anti-roll bar and new front bushes.
£270.25 worse off

You should get some uprated bushes the VW one's seem to be weak and keep failing. I have powerflex one's on mine and had no problems, they tighten up the handling aswellxx_loopy_xx wrote:Mine has been in for a new anti roll bar and new wishbone bushes and it still hasnt fixed mine!
I'm taking it to them tomoro, and telling them to get it sorted!!

Well... not best impressed... Took it in and they said that basically because they can't hear the noise that they can't do anything to fix it.
They said when its making it again that i should take it! But i doesnt make it all the time so how can i make sure that it does it again! Lol!
I'd upgrade things but its up for sale, so dont think there is much point!
Not really impressed with my volkswagen at the mo! It's really put me off getting another one!

My passenger side front one knocks occasionally - not all the time so it's annoying as i can never get it to do it when i take it in!
They said they would have been checked at the 40K service last night. They were replaced at the end of 04 and i think it's back. Gonna ask them to check again when it goes in for the door rattle in 2 week's.
oh the joy of the 9n
